The Bharati Foundation, Vishnu
Mandir and Community Partners
hosted a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Day Of Service and The 26th Anniversary
of The Vishnu Mandir, Hindu
Temple on Jan. 21. This event was
held at The Sotomayor Center in the
Bronx. There was a food distribution
of fresh produce, canned goods, natural
energy drinks, PPE, a covid vaccine
van, tables with valid information,
a live dj, a live performance by
musician Latrell Antonetty and so
much more. Special guest speakers
were Inspector Ramsey, Inspector Tolentino,
Ms. Bharati Sukul Kemraj,
Esther Joseph, Ian Harris (candidate
for NYS Senate-District 32) and Capt.
Gerald Rocco of the FDNY. Rocco of
the FDNY spoke on fi re safety, prevention
and had a table with much
needed information. This was an
event of service and thanksgiving. In
the words of Martin Luther King Jr.,
“Everybody can be great because everybody
can serve.”

were on hand for the Cookie
with a Cop event which took place
as part of the Grand re-opening celebration
for the Garrison Avenue
McDonald’s. Each child in attendance
got a fresh baked chocolate
chip cookie, child safety coloring
books, hats and gloves, NYPD soccer
balls and other items donated
by state Assemblywoman Amanda
Septimo. Embraced by the residents
of the Hunts Point community, police
offi cers were given hi-fi ves by
the children and answered questions.
