Jr. Celebration Coat Giveaway
On what would have been Reverend
Dr. Martin Luther King 92 birthday,
the Bronx Youth Empowerment Program
hosted its annual Dr. MLK Celebration
and Coat Giveaway on Jan.
17. In the wake of chilly temperatures,
youth from ages 11 to 17 discussed the
importance of Dr. King’s legacy and
share specifi c quotes of the iconic civil
rights leader and what they mean to
them in 2022.
In addition, in the tradition and
spirit of caring for one another, YEP
Partnering up with other CBO’s such
as Easy Living Shelter, YOURS, Banana
Kelly, ICAN Relief, Talented
Tenth Team and Wholeness Journey,
and Empire Health to provide more
than 100 families hot meals for lunch,
new coats for everyone and prepared
meals for a week. A number of families
from the Bronx fi re were in attendance
as were other Bronx families.
Given all that’s going on due to
this pandemic, Bobby Jean, Throggs
Neck Business Improvemnt District
executive director, wanted business
owners to speak on the effects that
COVID-19 has had on their business.
Pastosa Ravioli, a third generation,
family-owned and operated Italian
specialty food company, is located
at 3812 E. Tremont Ave., in Throggs
Neck.
The owner, Joseph Dimarco said
last year was a “disaster.” They lost
a lot of customers due to COVID. He
also said that business has picked up
a little more this year than it did last
year. He is very cautious with customers.
They must have a mask. He
has extra masks on hand for customers
if needed. There is a protective
shield (plexiglas) in the store where
the meat is handled.

was also there in full support. MTA
donated one of their buses to be piled
up with items donated to those in need
due to this horrifi c fi re.

PPE, canned goods, toiletries and more.
