In the next few days, Bronx residents
will be treated to a slate of holiday
programming right from the
comfort of their own homes.
BronxNet is presenting several
performances starting this weekend,
including George Frideric Handel’s
“Messiah” performed by The Orchestra
of The Bronx and Bronx Opera
Company, Manhattan College’s Lessons
and Carols, a virtual “Nutcracker”
by the Paige Fraser Foundation,
a Parranda celebration by
Casita Maria and Pregones PRTT’s
Fiesta Navideña.

In addition to The Orchestra of
the Bronx and Bronx Opera Company
Handel’s “Messiah” features
prominent members of the Bronx
community, including Dr. Ruth Westheimer,
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz,
Councilman Andrew Cohen,
Congressman Jose E. Serrano,
Bronx Community College President
Thomas Isekenegbe and Knobbe.
Viewers can catch the performance

Optimum and channel 2133 for Verizon
Fios.

is leading the video premiere of Manhattan
College Lessons and Carols.
The annual tradition features music
by the school’s choir and orchestra.

Those who love Christmas classics
will enjoy the Paige Fraser Foundation’s
Virtual Variations, which is
a retelling of The Nutcracker. Performers
will dance ballet, modern,
tap, vogue and hip-hop dance styles.
Virtual Variations will air on one
night only on BronxNet channel 68
for Optimum and 2134 for Fios.

Those interested in learning
about a traditional Puerto Rican holiday
celebration can tune into the
Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education’s
Parranda program, featuring
caroling, festive fl oats and performances
by Kyle Matthews and Su
Pleneros. The program is presented
by Urban Health Plan, BronxNet and
the city’s Department of Cultural affairs
and sponsored by Councilman
Rafael Salamanca Jr. Viewers can
