LET US HEAR FROM YOU
BRONX TIMES REPORTER, DEC. 25-31, 2020 13
“It has been a year like
no other, and we have a community
and friends like no
others.” We send packages
all year round but it is so
special at Christmas time.
With schools and businesses
closed, I was very worried
we wouldn’t be able to send
any boxes. I emailed and
called lots of people. We had
no fundraisers so we didn’t
know if we would have the
money for the postage. In
the past, we would send 100
or more boxes at $20 each.
First, John Cummings donated
$200 to cover the fi rst
100 boxes. Then, Mark Gjonaj
also donated the same. The
Iona Prep Mothers Club sent
many large bags of Christmas
stockings and other
stuff. All the local American
Legion Posts and City Island
also collected. Items were left
at St. Benedict’s rectory and
people who knew where I live,
dropped off boxes and bags of
stuff. The fi rst batch of 140
boxes went, then another 73
and fi nally 90 more!!!!!! A total
of 303 boxes. Postage was
$6,060. Thanks to many “angels”
who gave $5, $10, $50
— and a few gave more. We
made it.
Items are still coming in
but we will wait until after
New Year to see when we will
have enough money to send
those boxes. Our Battalion
is from Fort Drum New York
and Commander Jared said
to tell you all “thank you for
not forgetting them.”
Thank you to the Bronx
Times Reporter for their
wonderful coverage of our
community and letting us
give you the update of Korony
American Legion 253
Auxiliary Program “packages
to the troops.” May God
continue to bless us all and
especially all our military
and their families and our
country. Please be safe.
Love and prayers,
Aunt Cathy Praino
letters & comments
Dear editor,
It is gratifying to learn
that at least one other reader
objects to the extremist rhetoric
and fact-free columns
submitted by the COMACTA
mouthpiece. I wish to thank
Mr. Weiner for his letter last
week, where he decried the
“convenient fact gathering”
and “total lack of evidence”
of the “think tanker”. However,
I must dispute his characterization
of my letters;
they are honest critiques of
a right wing zealot who, for
some unknown reason, merits
a weekly BTR column.
This week the COMACTA
frontman assails Andrew
Cuomo for his alleged “disdainful
attitude towards personal
freedom” and a raft of
other bogus charges, while
attempting to paint Mr.
Trump’s virtually non-existent
response to the virus
as heroic. Clearly the author
subscribes to the “alternative
facts” credo, fi rst deployed
by Kellyanne Conway, but
as NBC’s Chuck Todd accurately
stated “alternative
facts aren’t facts, they are
falsehoods.”
