On Sunday, October 20th,
2019, Velocity Track Club New

Relay plus One Mile Challenge
at Van Cortland Park.
The relay consisted of three

Boys Team. Youth may move
up in division but must run
in the division with the oldest

ran the fl at loop, 2nd leg ran
Cemetery Hill and the 3rd

all athletes also ran the One
Mile Challenge. Trophies
were awarded to the top 3 relay
teams and custom medals
to the top 10 fi nishers in the
One Mile Race (5-6 Years Old
Top 5)
Velocity Track Club had 33
athletes compete at the event
and we won 16 trophies and 21
medals. There is something
about running a relay. Children
give 110% when they
are running on a relay team.
They don’t want to let their
team mates down. The following
athletes won trophies: Savanna

On Friday, October 11th, Monsignor Scanlan Track
Team competed in the All Hallows Invitation at Van Cortland
Park. Many of the top CHSAA (Catholic High School
Athletic Association) schools from New York and New Jersey
were in attendance. The meet was well organized, and
the competition was good. The following events were contested:
Freshman 1.5 miles and Varsity 2.5 miles races.
Monsignor Scanlan’s Crusaders ran respectful times in
the 2.5-mile race. In the varsity 2.5-mile race, Junior Student
Athlete Mario Augui took one minute & 25 seconds off
his personal best time to fi nish the 2.5 mile race in 16:29.
Senior Jordan Providence who is known as a sprinter, ran
the 2.5 mile race 28 seconds faster than his previous best
time. Yehuda Rogers, Joel Offi n, Aris Vlahos, Fernando
Ocotitla and Andreas Vlahos also ran respectful times in
the 2.5-mile race. Great job Crusaders!

BANTAMS
Cestra’s were not able
to get the ball rolling today.
Well at least not for the
points awarded to them for the
match. They were scheduled
for a 10am meeting with the
American Cleaners but unfortunately,
they had only four
players ready to go at game
time which was not enough
based on AFC’s rule of necessary
bodies of fi ve to start.
The coaches thought the kids
would be okay with just going
home with the points but they
were in for a surprise. It was a
wonderful day for football, or
soccer or whatever you call it.
The parents looked comfortable
on the sidelines as if they
had popcorn in the chair of a
movie theater, waiting for a
thriller to begin. The kids were
pleaded to play. After some
scrambling by the coaches
they were able to get a friendly
scrimmage going for the parents.
Some grandparents traveled
to see their grands play.
The show had to go on. It was
beautiful to see as the mixture
of both teams ran the fi eld like
it meant something. It became
apparent that kids just want
to have fun. Yes, they want to
win but more than anything,
they just want to have fun.
For what it’s worth, it gave the
Cestra’s their third win of the
season. Their next opponent
will be there and will be ready
to go. They have a 9am meeting
with unbeaten Spot-On. It
will prove to be another huge
test for them as they fi nish out
the season. Hope to see you
there!
Awesome game against
Burns and Rodriguez, once
again Gabriel Perez received
a hat trick assisted by Michael
Santucci and Jordyn Straussman
who play excellent forward
and fi elding. Julianna
Wisniewski played very good
forward along side Marcos
Guerrero who also received
an amazing goal yesterday off
the net. Natalie Amelio played
excellent defense along side
Kaliegh Lawton and Isabella
Cruz. Thomas Colt played excellent
offense getting the ball
down the fi eld into scoring
position to his other players.
Isbella Gordon also played a
great game.
Spot On came out to play
this week and continued their
winning streak. Some game
highlights were performed
by hat trick twins, Ryan
