Cardinal Spellman honors academic achievement
Cardinal Spellman High
School recognized over 400
students for their academic
achievements from the 2018-
2019 school year at Honors
Night on Thursday, October
3 and an honors assembly the
following morning. The evening
program began with a
prayer offered by Fr. Peter
Pilsner, director of Spiritual
Activities. Daniel O’Keefe,
president and principal of
Spellman then addressed
those in attendance, telling
the students that they are role
models for the entire school,
saying, “We are proud of you,
and you make us proud of
Spellman” and that “This is
a giant step on the way to fulfi
lling your vision.”
The school also presented
24 members of the Class of
2020 with the Diamond “S”
Award. They join the 1,024
other Spellman students
who have received the Diamond
“S” since its inception
in 1989. The Diamond “S” is
awarded to those students

Honors average for each of
their fi rst three years at Spellman,
passed all Regents exams,
and have participated in
the Advanced Placement and
Honors Program. The names
of all Diamond “S” students
are engraved on a plaque near
the fi rst fl oor entrance to the
school.

The night also featured
the installation of the new
co-presidents of the National
Honor Society, Adriana Balidemaj,
Ethan Butler, Soraya
Morales and Alexa Scaglione.
The highest ranked students
in each class were also
recognized for their outstanding
scholastic achievements
during the 2018-2019 academic
year. The top three students of
the Class of 2020 were Emma
Bucaj, Ethan Butler and Shakinah
Silverberg; the Class of
2021: Darryna Guy-Williams,
Milany Bruno and Kamilah
Abubaker; and the Class of
2022: Chaise Artemus, Annora
Titus-Glover and Anatasia
Karampimperis.

Jeffrey Sidoti welcomed
all in attendance for
the special occasion. Father
James Cruz ’83 followed with
an opening prayer. Through
the course of the program
awards were presented to students
for successfully earning
Principal, First or Seconds
honors during the 2018-2019
Spring Semester. Principal
Judith Carew presented academic
pins to the current 10th,
11th and 12th grade students
who received accolades.

Honor Roll, earning a grade
point average of 95 and above
during the ‘18-‘19 Spring Semester:
