Monsignor Scanlon kicks
off Cross Country season at
Regis Invitational
AFC Rapid Soccer - Week 2 BY COACH WINSTON DINKINS
Monsignor Scanlan High School’s track team started its
2021 Cross Country season off on a positive note. On Saturday,
Sept. 18, we competed in the Regis Invitational at the historic
Van Cortland Park in the Bronx. Many of the best athletes from
CHSAA (Catholic High School Athletic Association), independent
high schools and public high schools were in attendance.
The following races were contested: Freshman Girls and
Boys 2500 meters and Sophomore, Junior and Senior Girls and
Boys 2.5-mile run. Medals were award to the top 50 athletes in
the race.
Crusaders had seven athletes compete in this event and
were blessed with four medals. Our freshman girls looked good
winning Monsignor Scanlan’s four medals. Saniah Caldwell
was the top Crusader with a 10th place fi nish and a time of
11:24. Caldwell was followed by Talia Dixon, 11th place, Candice
Palmer, 14th place and Rakea Thomas, who fi nished in
26th place out of 82 freshman girls. We needed fi ve girls to have
competed for Freshman Girls Team award, which we should
have at our next meet.
Our top boy was Sophomore Kyle Matthews, with a time of
18:46 in the 2.5-mile run. Matthews performed well for his fi rst
time ever running a Cross Country meet. Alan Peralta and
Dontae Lindo also performed respectfully for the opening season.
Great job Crusaders!
Our next meet is Saturday, Sept. 25, the Xavier Invitational
at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island; and on Saturday, Sept. 30, the
Fordham Prep XC Meet at Van Cortland Park.
