A BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID)
FOR ALLERTON
The most frequently asked question of a Bronx
small business owner and property owner is
will I still be in business next year? The business
community environment has changed with the
internet, social media, and excessive regulations and
fines from the City. In fighting a battle for a profitable
business future the small business person needs help
and help is found in three areas: 1) spend all your
money on fancy attorneys and accountants 2) call 311
3) form a Business Improvement District (BID) so that
your voice and issues will be combined with hundreds
and thousands of other small business owners who,
with one powerful voice, can get positive change.
A Business Improvement District in Allerton will work
to create an effective marketing and promotional
force to drive more foot traffic into the district; it will
address local issues such as parking, sanitation, security,
store front vacancies, street improvements such
as landscaping, lighting and signage; and it will have
a permanent, full time professional advocate who
will serve to assist you in any business issue you may

have. It is not a volunteer based effort that may be
here today and gone tomorrow. It’s a business plan
for the business district which provides business community
control that assures year after year business
advocacy. BIDs exist in 77 areas of the City with 12 in
the Bronx. Allerton business interests and problems
can better be addressed by joining forces with other
local BIDs: Morris Park, Throggs Neck, Westchester
Square, Castle Hill, Fordham Road, Arthur Avenue,
and White Plains Road.
Look at the map and see where the Allerton BID will
serve the business community. It will serve the needs
of merchants and service providers and 91 property
owners. It will operate at the direction of Allerton
BID property owners, merchants and the residents
who are your day to day customers. It is a local team
effort to make the Allerton business community more
able to be productive and profitable in the years to
come. A BID answers the question that started this
conversation — yes, a BID can help you to be in
business for years to come.
