BASKETBALL RENOVATION COMPLETED IN SOUNDVIEW
The First Responders Children’s Foundation, NYC Housing Authority, the NYPD, House of Mandela and several elected offi cials came together, on June 24, for a ribbon cutting to celebrate
the complete renovation of the basketball courts in Soundview. The day provided a refreshing opportunity to build trust and respect between the youth and community leaders. Several
NYPD offi cers even took part in a free throw competition with some neighborhood kids. Bronx District Attorney Darcell Clark, who was raised in the Soundview Houses, was on hand and
proudly displayed her basketball skills. Mayor Bill de Blasio was also in attendance to show his support and took part in a shooting competition. The young adults had fun, and received
wonderful gifts. Jillian Crane, president of First Responders Children’s Foundation expressed her joy in assisting with handing out so many prizes. Police Chief Rodney Harrison spoke
about the importance of working with youth in the community, having them feel comfortable to come outside and making a safe haven for them in order to strengthen the bond and
build trust with the NYPD.
