BY MARY JANE MUSANO
I must apologize for
the long hiatus. I am still
recovering from hand
surgery but I assure you
that we are all still working
hard to keep our community
the best it can be.
March is always our
fi rst meeting of the year
and as always we meet on
the fourth Tuesday of the
month. Sometimes we
have a month that has fi ve
weeks as in this March.
Our meeting will be on
Tuesday, March 24 at the
First Lutheran Church
which is on the corner of
Hollywood and Baisley
avenues. We gather at 7:30
p.m.
This meeting will be
chock full of important
information that we all
need. So please make
plans to attend and bring
your neighbors with you.
We are trying to help our
members get through
this period where Coronavirus
is on everyone’s
mind. We are also aiming
to inform our members
for the 2020 elections
which are sure to be one
that every person in our
country should be very
involved in.
We will have two
guest speakers. Sherrill
Kratenstein from Locust
Point CSA will speak
about some wonderful options
for fresh and nutritious
food. This is always
important but now with
the threat of Coronavirus
it is imperative to eat
nutritious food, take supplements
and do all that
you can to boost your immune
system.
Soon we will all have
the opportunity to cast
our votes for candidates
that will show care and
concern for the issues we
have in our community.
We must choose someone
that is very knowledgeable
about what our community
needs. We need
someone that realizes
how important it is to be
present in our neighborhoods.
Therefore, we must
be very familiar with
each candidate’s platform
and we must be willing to
make our issues perfectly
clear to each of our local
candidates.
Last year we invited
John Cummings, who is
running to replace Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez to
address our members.
Ruth Papazian is also
running for that seat in
Congress so we thought
we needed to learn about
her platform as well. She
will speak at our March
meeting so have your
questions and suggestions
ready.
There has never been
a more important time
to get involved with the
issues in our community
and in our country.
We must take the time to
be informed, make decisions
and then fi ght with
all of our might to get the
right people in our government.
Everyone can
do something.
I am looking forward
to seeing everyone on
March 24th. Please remember
that if you are
sick, have a cough or have
been near someone with
symptoms to stay home
so that we can all be safe.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Sunday, March 15,
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
in Throggs Neck, 9 a.m.
Mass, then breakfast (at
St. Benedict’s) then parade
down the avenue
from Lafayette and East
Tremont avenues as
usual. That means our
3rd Sunday post meeting
moves to the 4th Sunday,
March 22 at Turner’s -
usual time. Pass it on.
Friday, April 17, it’s
Support the Troops Bingo
(and more) Fundraiser at
Sam Young AL Post 620.
A great evening, thanks
again, again Commander
Owen and staff.
Try to attend, helpers/
marchers always needed.
To paraphrase
Thomas Jefferson; How
many failures could have
been successful if the person
didn’t give up....
