Montefi ore Medical Center
is the University Hospital of Albert
Einstein College of Medicine. It was
founded in 1884 “by leaders of New
York’s Jewish community” as the
Home for Chronic Invalids, housing
mainly tuberculosis patients. It
is currently celebrating its 100th
Anniversary in the Bronx, having
moved to its current location in
1912. It has since been a fi xture
in the Bronx community, treating a
myriad of conditions in the borough
and beyond.
Montefi ore prides itself on
being at the forefront of medical care,
achieving a number of milestones in
health care, surgery and community
medicine. The medical center has
created Centers of Excellence
around cancer care, cardiovascular
services, transplantation and
children’s health. The institution
would also go on to establish
the United States’ fi rst hospital
departments of social medicine
and home health care. Montefi ore
Medical Center has a long history
of responding to community health
crises, including lead poisoning and
AIDS. It also ranks among the top
hospitals nationally and regionally
by U.S. News & World Report and
has been recognized for its quality
safety standards and its efforts to
embrace technology.
The Moses Campus is located
in the Norwood community and
includes the Children’s Hospital at
Montefi ore (created in 2001), which
was recognized as one of “America’s
Best Children’s Hospitals in U.S.
News & World Report. Located
nearby is the Greene Medical Arts
Pavilion, an outpatient care and
diagnostic testing facility.
The Jack D. Weiler Hospital
is also operated by Montefi ore and
is located adjacent to the Albert
Einstein College of Medicine in
Morris Park. Nearby is Montefi ore
Medical Park, an ambulatory care
facility that contains offi ces for
outpatient visits, full-time clinical
practices and administrative offi ces
for clinical departments.
In 2008, Montefi ore acquired
Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, a
Roman Catholic hospital in the north
Bronx, which is now the Wakefi eld
Campus of Montefi ore.
Additional services are
being offered at the newly created
Hutchinson Campus. There are also
more than 350 physicians practicing
medicine in 22 community-based
locations throughout the Bronx
and Westchester that comprise the
Montefi ore Medical Group.

Jacobi was founded in 1955
and named in honor of Dr. Abraham
Jacobi, known as the father of
American pediatrics. It is a member of
the New York City Health and Hospitals
Corporation, and a partner in the North
Bronx Healthcare Network. With over
470 beds in its main building, Jacobi
is one of the largest public hospitals
in the Bronx, providing quality care for
over 1.2 million Bronx and New York
area residents. The hospital offers a
complete range of acute, specialty,
general and psychiatric services.
Jacobi also operates communitybased
health care centers that
provide general adult and pediatric
examinations and health screenings
for a variety of concerns, including
hypertension, diabetes, breast cancer
and prostate cancer. Its newest $173
million inpatient facility, designed for
patient comfort as well as the latest
in medical technology, includes 344
inpatient beds placed in beautiful and
spacious private and semi-private
rooms. Large, modern Adult and
Pediatric Emergency Departments
are specially equipped to handle
trauma, critical illness, injury, or
mass casualty incidents. A dedicated
Radiology Center offers state of the
art diagnostic equipment. A large
Operating Suite is equipped with
the latest innovations in surgical
and laparoscopic equipment. In the
summer of 2008, Jacobi welcomed
the addition of a state of the art
Ambulatory Care Center. Medical,
surgical, cardiac, pediatric and burn
intensive care units are outfi tted with
every amenity for cutting edge critical
care.

Bronx-Lebanon Hospital has
over 100 years of history taking care
of the Bronx. Lebanon Hospital was
incorporated in 1889 and the Bronx
Hospital incorporated in 1909. The
two merged in 1962 and has since
become the largest voluntary, notfor
profi t health care system, serving
the South and Central Bronx, with 970
beds at two major hospital divisions;
a major psychiatric facility; two
specialized long term care facilities;
and an extensive “BronxCare”
Network of 70 medical practices,
including the Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. Health Center, as well as a 51-unit
housing facility for seniors and low
income residents.
Recently, the hospital
celebrated the creation of a
new state-of-the-art children
and family-friendly Pavilion for
its Pediatric Services. Bronx-
Lebanon also completed a major
ER modernization, including 17
additional exam/treatment rooms
and expanded waiting areas to
address high utilization levels and
expedite the fl ow of admissions.
Last year, the hospital began
construction of a new 56,000
square foot Life Recovery Center

for the treatment of substance
abuse and chemical dependency.
This year, the hospital plans to open
its new 9-story Ambulatory Care
Facility to accommodate continued
increases in outpatient visits. In the
future, Bronx-Lebanon looks to offer
additional increases in intensive
care, cardiology, medical/surgical,
and psychiatric beds to meet
the growing needs of the Bronx
community.
Bronx-Lebanon has a lot
to celebrate. Among its many
accomplishments, its 911
designated Stroke Center in the
ER has been the recipient of the
American Heart Association’s
Silver Medal. It has also been
the recipient of more than $19
million in grant awards. In
addition, at some point this year,
Bronx-Lebanon expects to be
fully computerized. With all its
accolades, the hospital has been
most successful in providing
quality health care to those in
need, regardless of their ability
to pay. Bronx-Lebanon regularly
provides free check-ups and
screenings at schools, shelters,
nursing homes, senior citizen
centers, churches, and many other
community organizations. It is
also among the largest employers
in the borough, with more than
4,000 employees, in the South
and Central Bronx.

North Central Bronx Hospital
is a member of the New York City
Health and Hospitals Corporation,
and a partner in the North Bronx
Healthcare Network. Opened
in 1976, North Central Bronx
Hospital is a major provider of
comprehensive health care in one
of New York City’s most ethnically
diverse service areas. It has
become a fi xture in the Norwood
community, with 9,203 admissions,
more than 196,000 outpatient visits,
61,000 emergency visits and 1,600
deliveries annually. NCBH offers
a wide range of primary, medical,
surgical, obstetrical/gynecological,
behavioral health services and
state-of-the-art inpatient care. The
Emergency Room, open 24 hours a
day, seven days a week, provides
both medical and psychiatric
emergency services. The hospital’s
midwifery service has received
national recognition for its familyfriendly
approach.
Among NCBH’s newest
renovations are a self-contained
Ambulatory Surgery Suite, an
inpatient Geriatric Medicine Unit, an
inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Unit,
acquisition of one of the largest and
quietest MRI units on the market
today and acquisition of a new
digital mammography unit. Services
have been expanded to offer a host
of medical programs tailored to
the needs of geriatric patients, a
successful Hospitalist program and
the Partial Hospitalization program
(an alternative approach to services
for the mentally ill which provides
daily therapeutic intervention while
allowing patients to live at home.)
NCBH’s Sexual Assault Response
Team delivers prompt, state-of-theart
forensic and counseling services to
sexual assault victims. NCBH was the
fi rst NYC hospital to receive a SAFE
(Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner)
Center of Excellence designation by
the NYS Department of Health.
The Center also offers a broad
range of wellness programs, which
include stress and pain management,
weight loss, smoking cessation and
cardiovascular risk reduction.

Lincoln Medical and Mental
Health Center, founded in 1839,
is tightly woven into the fabric

Today, Lincoln stands as the
vital core of medical care for the
Downtown Bronx community.
Lincoln Medical and Mental Health
Center is a full service acute care
hospital and one of the Premier
Trauma Centers in the country.
The hospital offers comprehensive
primary, secondary, preventive and
specialty care services. Our Level
1 Trauma Center is the busiest
in the northeast region and the
third busiest in the country. The
Hospital is staffed by a team of
more than 300 physicians and has
an inpatient capacity of 347 beds,
including 20 neonatal intensive
care beds, 10 surgical intensive
care beds, 8 pediatric intensive
care beds, 7 coronary care beds,
and an expanded 11 station
renal dialysis unit. In addition,
Lincoln Hospital is known for its
innovative programs, emphasizing
primary care and specialty
medicine while using the latest
advances in medical science. The
New York State Department of
Health has also selected Lincoln
as the first hospital in the South
Bronx to receive designation
as an official Stroke Center, a
designation ensuring that stroke
victims will be seen quickly and
receive the specific treatment that
is critical to preventing permanent
disability or death. As a result, in
2011, Lincoln Hospital received
the Gold Plus Quality Achievement
Award from the American Heart
Association.

St. Barnabas Hospital is a 461-
bed, not-for-profi t, nonsectarian,
acute care, 911-receiving hospital
that holds state designations as
a regional trauma center, stroke
center and AIDS center. We provide
