Police on the evening
of Sept. 9 apprehended
a man they say escaped
from federal custody
on his way to Metropolitan
Detention Center
in Sunset Park after an
hours-long search and
stakeout.
A spokesman for
the NYPD would not
disclose the suspect’s
identity but told Brooklyn
Paper at around
5:30 pm that the inmate
was on the run with no
shoes.
Police described the
detainee as a 19-yearold
man standing at
5-feet, 10-inches tall
with black pants and a
gray hoodie.
Police said the escapee
was taken into
custody at 174 26th
Street between Third
and Fourth Avenues in
Greenwood Heights at
approximately 6:42 pm.
After searching
Fourth Avenue rooftops
and residences for
the suspect, authorities
cordoned off 26th
Street between Third
and Fourth Avenue at
around 6 pm — when
police suspected the 19-
year-old was hiding out
inside the 26th Street
home.
Cops on the scene
said the suspect jumped
out of a moving car on
his way to MDC.
The Federal Bureau
of Prisons did not immediately
respond to a
request for comment.
