@KATRINAMEDOFF This year, many locals are trading gatherings with
extended family for a quiet holiday with those in their
own household. But that doesn’t mean a dampening of
the holiday spirit; western Queens residents are lugging
Christmas trees home from sidewalk vendors, lighting
menorahs, and cozying up on the couch for a New Year’s
Eve with champagne and TV. We asked our readers to tag us
(@boromagazine) in their Instagrams of the holiday season in
Astoria, Long Island City and Sunnyside. Submissions included
freshly baked gingerbread cookies, festive pets and extravagantly
