AUGUST 2013 | BOROMAG.COM | 7 Oconomi—the Japanese food stand—is grilling up vegetable and pork pancakes with Japanese cabbage slaw and a myriad of sauces, but guests can wash it all down with a glass of Yuzunade, a lemonade made with the Japanese citrus yuzu. If you lean toward a classic lemonade, LIC Burger Garage is serving up their fresh-squeezed rendition as well as cran-raspberry iced tea, and even an Arnold Palmer. By the way, the burgers are seriously some of the best in the city—and they even offer gluten-free buns. For a farmers market spin on lemonade, lines have been forming at Lizzmonade, where the staff mixes fresh fruit (berries, mango, pineapple, and more) with sliced lemons and you can even add mint, basil, ginger, rosemary, jalapeno or habanero into the mix. Sugar-wary sippers can opt for agave, Stevia, or even order it up naked (sugarless). Sweetleaf is one of the hottest coffee shops in the neighborhood, but they are cooling things down with a chilled selection of iced java like their signature "Rocket Fuel’"with chicory and maple. Another favorite is an iced black tea with strawberry puree and simple syrup. The empanadas at Jessy’s Pastries are best accompanied by a cup of mango and passion fruit juice, with refills available at half price. The tent for the Melting Pot boasts one of the largest varieties of beverages. They come from the Caribbean and include the effervescent Jamaican grapefruit soda, Ting. They also offer a champagne kola, reggae juice medley, and island mango, among others. The team at Paella Valencia stirs up a gigantic saffron pan of paella with chorizo and chicken, but the real eye catchers are the coolers of sangria floating with citrus wedges and giant ice clusters, available in white or red (no alcohol, though— sorry). Sothian Ice Teas generously serve samples of their brews alongside porcelain bowls of fragrant dried fruits and leaves. You will quickly fall in love with their "Summer Breeze,’"a caffeine-free blend of rose hips, hibiscus flower, red rose petals, lemon peel and apple pieces. The South African/Chinese team at Woza is pouring homemade lychee ginger ale, along with their own minty, anti-oxidant rich rooibos iced tea. Last but never least, when it comes to dessert drinks what could be better than an old-fashioned root beer float from the folks at Malu?
