recipe” that is easy to make. He recommends
 that readers cook from the
heart, be sloppy, be unique, and the
 taste will still be amazing.
Part of the proceeds from selling the
Astoria at Home Cookbook will go to
a local nonprofit, Astoria Mutual Aid
 Network.
“I really love that the organization
 is a community-driven response,” Riley
 said. “The nice thing about
 AMAN is how they are
 partnering with a lot of
 other nonprofits and
 bringing neighbors
 together
 to volunteer to
 meet the needs
 of the community
 whether it’s
 grocery delivery,
 supporting food
 pantries, picking up
 prescriptions or calling
 people so they don’t feel
so alone during this time. Because
 the Astoria Cookbook is about
the restaurant industry, we wanted it
to be tied to food and their main program
is grocery delivery so we felt that
 it fit on all levels.”
 Community members are also welcome
to submit a story to be featured in
the Astoria at Home Cookbook, either
 on its website (astoriacookbook.com)
 or on its Instagram (@astoriacookbook).
When the project was announced on social
 media, Astorians and even previous
Queens residents shared their stories as
well as the restaurants and dishes they
 hoped would be featured.
 “People have been really excited
about it, which is really cool to see.
Sometimes when you have an idea,
you’re not sure if it’s a good idea. So
for people to respond so warmly feels
good. From the customer side, people
have been really excited to order it and
have been sending in stories about their
 favorite restaurants and dishes they
hope are included, putting friendly pressure
 on some restaurants,” Riley said.
The recipe book will include four categories:
   small plates, mains, desserts
and cocktails. The cookbook is set to
come out on July 28. Anyone who preorders
 the cookbook will receive the
digital copy that day, and then it will
continue to be available for sale for
 immediate download on the Astoria
 Cookbook website.
“All too often, patrons look to Manhattan
as the mecca of good food. Taverna
Kyclades is happy to have Astoria recognized
in this more intimate way as
a place where good food and family
come together with this culmination of
great recipes for all of us,” Skenduri said.
