Social media helps locals
reduce waste
This month, we’re shining a light on locals who saw
a problem in their lives or their communities and came
up with a creative solution. Astoria actor Ashley Kate
Adams was tired of not being able to control her career,
so she learned to produce her own projects. Now, she’s
sharing what she learned in a new book (page 14).
Long Island City resident Brian Pham was horrified
by the rise in violence against the AAPI community,
so he decided to raise money to cook hundreds of meals
for the elderly at the Chinese Community Center
(page 21). Plus, several Queens residents help reduce
consumerism and protect the environment by running
social media pages that connect locals with items that
would otherwise be thrown away (page 26).
