Sugarcube Pastry Chef Mauricio Santelice is making all the desserts in-house, ranging from fruit and liquorfilled bonbons to salted caramel popcorn cake, and a myriad of frozen confections, including lime and fresh basil sorbet, passion fruit and mandarin sorbet, and a chocolate valrhona gelato and lightly roasted pistachio gelato. Owner Peter Zaharatos utilizes a 3-D printer to create molds for his stunning chocolates, and geometry has never tasted so good. 10-16 50th Ave., Long Island City, NY 929-424-5616 Leli’s Bakery Leli’s took 30th Avenue by storm when it opened, satiating the sweet tooth cravings of Astoria’s grand avenue with everything from their delicious cupcakes to their seasonal pies, savory pastries, and mouthwatering array of cookies and steamy after-dinner drinks. They even offer their own version of the infamous cronut. But the thing that I have to order every single time is their exceptional take on the rainbow cookie, available in dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate. The moist almond cake layered with raspberry jam dipped in a casing of chocolate is the stuff dreams are made of. 35-14 30th Ave, Astoria, NY 11103 718-626-8090 photo by Angela Matua Sugarcube Leli's 52 I BOROMAG.COM I MAY 2016 FOOD + DRINK
