City Parks Department reveals designs for
$1.25M renovation of Flatbush playspace

City Parks honchos unveiled
designs on June 19 for a
planned $1.25 million makeover
of Sunners Playground in
Flatbush, which will provide
local kids with new play equipment,
water toys, and green
stuff sometime in the next couple
years.
The 8,000-square-foot park
— located on Avenue H between
Kings Highway and E.
49th Street, and named after
the famed New York Times
Crossword Puzzle author William
Sunners — will be graced
with two new play structures
featuring slides, jungle gyms,
and rock-climbing walls, in
addition to swing sets and geysers
that launch jets of water
into the air, according to Justin
Silveira, an architect for
the park, who unveiled the
designs at Community Board
18’s full board meeting.
Other planned amenities
include new benches, drinking
fountains, fencing, lighting
fi xtures, and “cushioned
asphalt,” which Silveira described
