AIRPORT VOICE, DECEMBER 2020 15
The JFK Customs Border
Protection held its annual
Counterfeit Day.
Acting CBP Port Director
Sal Ingrassa and HSI Erik
Rosenblatt Special Agent
conducted the media briefing
describing the dangers
and pitfalls of buying fake
goods. Ingrassa spoke of the
amount of money that is lost
to manufactures by intellectual
theft by foreign governments,
notably China. From
Apple iphones, ipads, name
brand team shirts, designer
bags and apparel, knockoffs
watches, to different health
and ED medicines, these
goods come in daily trying to
escape detection.
Rosenblatt says that the
proceeds of these goods is often
funneled back to bad actors
who need to raise money
for terrorism. The two men
pointed out how good these
goods looked but upon inspection
by a trained eye,
the inferior construction and
lack of certain product enhancements
are easily found.
They admit that finding
a bargain that is too good to
be true is tempting but ask
the public for help in not supporting
these thieves by buying
their merchandise and
depriving the U.S. of its right
to create , manufacture and
profit from our labors.
