Security guard work
habits under review
Port stresses strict work performance
The Port Authority Security Operation
and Programs Department (PA
SOPD) will be taking firm measures on
security guards showing blatant disregard
for their security duties. This includes
but it is not limited to the following
cases:
-Failure to prevent the unauthorized
access while being distracted with
non-work-related activities (i.e. sleeping,
sitting and turned away from the
area of observation, reading/cellphone
usage, etc.). This is applicable to security
guards specifically tasked with
preventing unauthorized access (i.e.
cargo facility Yellow Line or loading
dock rovers, a malfunctioning door at
either terminal or cargo, etc .) and failing
to do so.
-Failure to conduct an inspection
of merchandise delivery intended for a
Sterile Area in terminal facilities.
-Failure to conduct proper escort
procedures resulting in losing sight of
the party under escort.
-All other instances of a security
guard disregarding and failing to perform
their duties.
10 AIRPORT VOICE, AUGUST 2021
All the cases described herein
will lead to immediate revocation of
the "SG" privilege on the Airport Security
Card or a temporary/permanent
revocation of the Airport Security
Card.
Security Guards posted at select
key posts are the cornerstone of airport
security and the last line of defense for
the entire airport. The PA SOPD will
not tolerate instances of personnel assigned
to one of these posts who neglect
the duties they were entrusted
with or being unknowledgeable of their
duties.
Facility operators and security
guard companies are directly responsible
for overseeing the performance
of security personnel at their facilities
and must conduct audits and/or quality
control checks on a frequent basis.
PA SOPD reserves the right to take action
against companies that fail to comply,
or their employees fail to comply,
with the security requirements of their
Security Services Permits, including
the revocation of the Security Services
Permit.
New Port security measures mandate that all cargo warehouses
will require specific areas for freight people to assemble when
arriving for a delivery or pick-up supervised by a guard.
