LGA Job Fair Success
1000 Job seekers attend
The Port Authority and Council
for Airport Opportunity (CAO)
job fair was held on Wednesday,
February 12, aimed at filling
more than 800 positions -- with
nearly 500 new jobs to be housed
in the new Terminal B Arrivals
and Departures Hall – as part of
the $8 billion LaGuardia Redevelopment
program.
Port and CAO were thrilled by
the number of interested job seekers
who numbered more than
1000 who lined up outside and inside
the Elmcor community Center
waiting to meet recruiters.
It will offer job seekers the
opportunity to explore and apply
for a wide variety of careers
in aviation and the airport industry,
including with major partners
SSP America, Villa Restaurant
Group, and Marshall Retail
Group.
The Terminal B arrivals and
departures hall, set to open in
mid-2020, will initially employ
nearly 500 additional people in
various roles, including customer
service, electricians, baggage
handlers, bartenders, cashiers,
chefs, and retail store
supervisors.
“It’s an exciting time for the
Port Authority as we rebuild legacy
infrastructure and bring our
customers a 21st century travel
experience,” said “We are making
tangible progress in building
a completely new LaGuardia Airport
and are delighted to seek job
applications from Queens to fill
hundreds of new jobs at the new
LGA,” said Port Authority Executive
Director Rick Cotton. “The
Port Authority remains focused
on helping to match job seekers
in Queens with exciting new opportunities
as the airport development
program advances.”
Recruiter Rafaela Ramirez
from DO&CO said. “ This is an
amazing turn out. We have 100’s
of good applications.”
Port Authority Chairman
Kevin O’Toole. “We look forward
to opening the doors of the future
not just to our customers but to
the local men and women looking
for work in the aviation, construction,
customer service, and
retail industries.”
ICEy reception over
Global Entry
Impasse; no NYS database info
The stalemate between
the suspension
of new or renew Global
Entry approvals and
the position of the Governor
of NY continues.
After meeting whthe
the President recently,
no negotiated settlement
appears to have
been accomplished.
Governor Cuomo had
this to say, “In response
to the acting
ICE director’s statements,
I want to again make my position
clear: I have said from Day 1
we will never allow the DMV database
to be used for immigration purposes.
The Trump administration
has been increasing their threats to
hold New Yorkers hostage to their
demand to turn over the DMV database
for ICE and Customs and Border
Protection to use to aid their deportation
of innocent law abiding
undocumented families.
“Every situation they have
raised I have answered. We can provide
trusted travel information. We
can provide the automobile export
industry information. What they really
want and what we can’t provide
is use of the DMV data for immigration
purposes. Period. Their extortion
and bullying will not work in
New York. In addition, as many national,
state and local law enforcement
agencies currently have access
to our DMV database and the
potential for surreptitious access to
the database is very real, I am exploring
alternatives to minimize the
harm caused by unauthorized use of
our database such as removal of social
security numbers - which could
be used to evidence undocumented
status - and increasing the penalty
for unauthorized use
of the DMV database,”
Cuomo remarked.
New York’s “Green
Light” law, which went
into effect in December,
allows people to get
a driver’s license even
if they don’t have legal
residency in the United
States. It includes a provision
prohibiting the
Department of Motor
Vehicles from providing
any data to entities
that enforce immigration law unless
a judge orders it to do so. DHS said,
“Customs and Border Protection
runs Trusted Traveler Programs
like Global Entry, FAST, SENTRI
and NEXUS, which rely on access to
DMV data to determine whether the
person is who they say they are and
if they have a criminal record. When
that data is denied, the security
is compromised. CBP expects the
move to affect up to 150,000-200,000
New York residents who seek to renew
membership in a CBP Trusted
Traveler Programs this fiscal year.
There are almost 30,000 commercial
truck drivers enrolled in the FAST
program at four New York-Canada
ports of entry.“Additionally, because
the law hinders DHS from validating
documents used to establish vehicle
ownership, the exporting of used vehicles
titled and registered in New
York state will be significantly delayed
and could also be costlier.”
DHS said that roughly 150,000
and 200,000 New Yorkers will be
unable to renew their trusted traveler
applications this year. Another
50,000 to 80,000 people who were in
the process of signing up for either
NEXUS, Global Entry, SENTRI or
FAST will not be accepted.

A real Maveric
Unique aircrft from Airbus
This is a maverick of the air industry, the Airbus Maveric. An aerodynamic
scale model measuring over six feet long and nearly 10 feet wide––code named
Maveric––underwent a series of extensive secret tests in central France beginning
in June of last year. An acronym for “model aircraft for validation and experimentation
of robust innovative controls,” the remote-controlled craft made its debut
at this year’s Singapore Air Show, where designers extolled the virtues of its
design, which allows for both a more interior space and increased fuel economy.
At Airbus, we understand society expects more from us in terms of improving
the environmental performance of our aircraft. MAVERIC’s blended wing body
configuration is a potential game-changer in this respect, and we’re keen to push
the technology to the limit. said Adrien Bérard, MAVERIC Project Co-Leader .You
can’t book a ticket aboard the Maveric just yet. Airbus claims that testing with
the current model will continue through at least the middle of this year.
