It was particularly special this time because it was the 25th year anniversary of the Volunteer Corps. “They rake leaves, pick up trash, plant trees, assist visitors, and help maintain this historic and magnificent park,” said Prospect Park Alliance President Emily Lloyd. She added, “After Hurricane Sandy, they were invaluable in getting the Park cleaned up.We cannot do this without them.” The volunteers who generously gave over 250 hours of service in one year received the Mary Cregg Award. Congratulations to Charles Fabbella of Ben Bay Realty and his wife, Teresa, on the birth of their twins, Olivia Rose, who was four pounds, 12 ounces and 17 inches at birth, and Madison Grace, who was five pounds, eight ounces at birth, and 18-1/2 inches in length. The charming bundles of joy Olivia Rose and Madison Grace Fabbella. were born on Thursday, April 4, Olivia at 1:54 p.m. and Madison a minute later. Michael J. Michael Cashin, born in the Bronx, was honored at Calvary Hospital with the 2013 Annual Meviar Smith Humanitarian Award along with Lucy Tedesco. Cashin started in the Housekeeping Department at Calvary in 1978, a few weeks before the new building opened and helped prepare the rooms for the arrival of the first patients “Michael’s dedication and heartwarming smile is a reminder to everyone to not let anything get in the way of performing your job with enthusiasm and optimism,” according to hospital sources. Tedesco, the other honoree, was also born and raised in the Bronx; she joined Calvary Hospital in 1972 and Meviar Smith was one of her instructors. Begun in 1988 and created to honor the memory of 28-year Calvary veteran, Meviar Smith, the award honors the qualities for which Meviar was known: famous for her loyalty, conscientious work ethic, and dedication to the patients. Councilmember David Greenfield presents a City Council proclamation to NYPD Inspector Eric Rodriguez at the February 70th Precinct Community Council meeting in honor of his recent promotion. Councilmember David Greenfield congratulated 70th Precinct commanding officer Inspector Eric Rodriguez on his promotion to full inspector during the precinct’s community council meeting in February. “It was a pleasure to personally congratulate Inspector Eric Rodriguez on his well-deserved promotion and to thank him for his great efforts on behalf of local residents,” Greenfield said, continuing, “This is someone who has dedicated his life and career to keeping New Yorkers safe and improving the quality of life in all of the neighborhoods served by the 70th Precinct.We truly are fortunate to have devoted people like Inspector Rodriguez protecting our community.” Greenfield also thanked Rodriguez for his great response to problems and concerns throughout the community in recent months, including issues with suspicious individuals and loitering along Foster Avenue, the precinct’s response to the serial killer who terrorized storeowners last summer and the rash of car break-ins that has plagued Midwood and surrounding neighborhoods recently. Late last year, the Haitian American Business Network Chamber of Commerce honored outstanding leaders during its fifth annual gala called: The Time is Now, which took place at Glen Terrace and which included Councilmember Jumaane Williams as one of the honorees. “I hope I can live up to all those wonderful things said about me” said Williams as he graciously accepted his award. He was joined by Entrepreneur of the Year Award Recipient David Morisset of the Law Offices of David Morisset, Organization of the Year Pastor Verel Montauban and Marilyn Pierre of the Haitian Family Resource Center, Outstanding Humanitarian Nicolas Almanor of Local 371, Distinguished Civil Servant Georges Nathan of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Advocacy and Leadership Award Recipient Gerard Cadet of 1199SEIU, with special remarks presented by Dr. Ron Daniels, president of the Institute of the Black World. “It is important to recognize those among us who serve unselfishly with distinction” added Jackson Rockingster, president and CEO of HABNET Chamber of Commerce. Catherine Witherwax has joined Stribling & Associates, one of New York’s premier residential brokerage firms, to serve as its director of sales at its soon-to-beopened Brooklyn office. “Catherine is well-known as an honest, hardworking, influential manager, and knowledgeable on all things Brooklyn,” said Catherine Witherwax President of Stribling & Associates, Elizabeth Stribling-Kivlan. “We are thrilled to have her on board as we continue to expand Stribling into the borough.” Witherwax has also worked as a senior associate broker at The Corcoran Group and was a founding member of Corcoran’s Brooklyn New Development Division. “Stribling & Associates is known for being a leader in New York City’s luxury real estate market,” said Witherwax. “I am excited and proud to manage Stribling’s first Brooklyn office, as the firm shares my commitment to quality not only in the market as a whole, but also my beloved home borough of Brooklyn.”
