York’s only all-female
baroque ensemble is coming
to St. John’s University to
present “Woman in Exile,”
a dedication to Antonia
Bembo. Bembo was an
Italian composer and singer
from the 17th-century born
in Venice, Italy. She fl ed
from her abusive marriage
and was housed under
protection by Louis XIV in
a convent. The event will
include works by Bembo as
well as her teachers and
contemporaries, such as
Antonio Vivaldi, Elisabeth
Jacquet de La Guerre and
more.

Two-Prov Tournament
- Q.E.D. is having its third
annual two-prov tournament.
Two- person improv comedy
teams are coming from all
over the city to compete
in the competition. These
improvisers have trained
at Upright Citizens Brigade,
Peoples Improv Theatre,
Magnet and Annoyance. Your
vote, along with a panel of
judges, will get to determine
who gets to go on. This year,
workshops will be offered to
everyone.

Ovation possesses cultural
signifi cance as a cultural
space for the southeast
Queens community to

children’s book, “Lumber
Jills.” This term was used
for women during World War
II who were willing to work
with woodcutting when there

them. Although they didn’t
have much experience, they
came together and served
to do their part. It’s a story
about home front heroism
and female friendships.
