Joel Ross — Presented in
partnership with the Jazz
Gallery for the 2018-2019 season,
Joel Ross will perform at the
Jamaica Center for Arts and
Learning. Ross just completed
a two year fellowship with the
Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintent
in California. He won fi rst place
at the 2016 BIAMP PDX Jazz
Festival ‘Jazz Forward.’ He also
just recorded his fi rst album,
“Good Vibes.”

Celebration of Nat King
Cole — There will be a musical
celebration of Nat King Cole
at Flushing Town Hall. This
celebration is brought to you
by Sachal Vasandani and other
top musicians in New York. This
critically acclaimed artist has
been praised by The New York
Times, calling him, “a bright
young singer with charisma
to spare.” He has four records
out currently. Other musicians
in the celebration include: Shai
Maestro, Reuben Rogers and
Obed Calvaire.

Silent Dance Party —
Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden
has an event featuring a silent
dance party with three live DJ’s.
Change the channel on your
headset to fl ip between the
three performers. Each headset
has a color LED that shows
which channel you’re listening
to. This experience will include a
pair of Quiet Events headphones
and glow in the dark gear.
Channels with have Hip Hop,
R&B and Latin hits. For those
who prefer quiet spaces, there
will be zero loud music to talk
over, which unlike other dance
parties means no ringing in your
ears when you leave. This is a
21+ event. Bring a valid form of
identifi cation.

Macramé Class — Almost
every day of the week Queens
Botanical Garden offers a
variety of interesting classes
for all ages. Taught by Melissa
Taylor, this class will teach
attendees how to design their
own piece, focusing on creating
a hanging planter. QBG even
provides a selection of prime
plants for your creations. This
is recommended for adults
and children over the age of 10.
Children must be accompanied
by a participating adult.
Registration is required, but
drop-ins are welcome upon
availability.

The Garifuna Jazz Ensemble —
The Garifuna Jazz Ensemble will
perform Taguiera (Homeland)
at Flushing Town Hall. This
show brings awareness of the
endangered language of the
Garifuna people. The Garinagu
are a mixed culture of West
Africans that intermarried with
The Carib-Arawak Indians on
the island of St. Vincent & The
Grenadines. This performance
showcases the culture through
a culmination of language,
indigenous rhythms, traditional
songs and elements of
traditional jazz. Musicians in the
ensemble include: Lucy Blanco,
Mario Sprouse, Gary Fritz and
Hiliard Greene with dancers
Martini Morales and Mariano
Martinez.

Spring Crush Adult Top Rope
Climbing Competition — A
Spring Crush Adult Top Rope
Climbing Competition will take
place at Brooklyn Boulders
Queensbridge. Their Citizens
Rope Competition is back for
another round. The competition
will be in redpoint format, where
competitors will receive points
for route completion. The fi ve
most valuable routes will be
the competitor’s fi nal score.
Attempts will be used to break
ties. Participants will compete
in the following categories:
recreational, intermediate,
expert and masters. Awards
will be given out following the
competition.

Solo Recital — Huang Tiange,
a 14-year-old piano prodigy,
has a solo recital, where he
will perform classic pieces
from artists such as: Scarlatti,
Gershwin, Chopin, Beethoven
and Prokofi ev at Flushing
Town Hall. There will be a 95
minute performance, giving his
audience an extremely powerful
and masterfully curated show.
Presented in cities all over the
world, Tiange will showcase two
premieres of his own sonata
and Wang Hua’s Suite Ba Shan
Yu Shui.
When: Sunday, March 17, at 2

Flight of the Butterfl ies —
Come to the New York Hall
of Science to experience the
Flight of the Butterfl ies, a 3-D
movie that takes visitors on a
treacherous yet captivating
journey. In the 3-D theater,
visitors are a part of the
monarch butterfl y’s journey.
Visitors watch their migration
patterns closely, witnessing
thousands fl y through the peaks
of Mexico. Experience what 40
years of research looks like to
fi nd the monarch butterfl y’s
secret hideaway.
