art installation celebrates
some of the biggest
black female singers in
entertainment. Standing
Ovation has select fi gures
from The African Diva Project,
printed to life-size, and
installed on the Jamaica
Performing Arts Center lawn.
The installation has been
praised by artist curator
Margaret Rose Vendryes. This
installation lasts until March
25.

Friday Night Standup
Show — Enjoy some laughs
and great food with a Friday
night standup show. The
event has all the ingredients
for a great night out and
features an Italian buffet
from Whitestone’s Verdi’s
Restaurant, a live DJ
and experienced comics
performing their best material.
Enjoy a performance of It’s
Your Line Now which includes
standup from Al Isaacs, Scott
Baker and Vinnie Mark. There
will be limited seating available
and valet parking.

SATURDAY, MARCH 9
Astoria Park Run — Every
Saturday, a volunteer-led
initiative meets in the morning
for runs and walks through
local neighborhood parks.
Although, this run will be held
in Astoria Park, this initiative
occurs in all fi ve boroughs.
This free event will be 2.5
to 3 miles long. Participants
are encouraged to arrive 15
minutes before the start of
the run and to leave their
valuables at home. They also
welcome people of all ages
and experience levels to join.

International Women’s
Day — This year, Brooklyn
Boulders Queensbridge
celebrates International
Women’s Day with their

Festival. On this day, Brooklyn
Boulders Queensbridge plans
to highlight the strength
and power of all those who
identify as women through
various workshops. This will
also include a panel and the
screening of fi lms from No
Man’s Land Film Festival.

Global Mashup 1: Bollywood
Meets Global Roots Blues
— This event combines two
cultures for a night of music,
dancing and fun. Starting
with dance lessons, the event
begins with an open dance
fl oor for all attendees. Each
band will perform a set, then
the two bands meet and jam
out together. The show has
two powerhouse groups: Falu,
an internationally recognized
Indian performer, and Hazmat
Modine, a blues New York
City group. The performance
has African, Central Asian,
Caribbean and Eastern
European infl uences.

Introductory Workshop —
Cultivate your green thumb
at Queens Botanical Garden

Fred Gerber in an introductory
workshop on how to start your
summer vegetables indoors.

starter garden. The workshop
is recommended for adults
and children ages 10+. Children
under 18 must be accompanied
by an adult. Registration
is required. Drop-ins are
welcome upon availability.

Annual Parish Fundraiser

annual parish fundraiser

Foodtown, Panera Bread,
Austin’s Ale House, The Wine
Room of Forest Hills and Nick’s
Bistro.

to draw a live nude model with
other artists. The workshop

medium. This workshop will
give artists real experience in
a relaxing and non-judgmental
environment. The event even
has music and refreshments
for participants. You must be at
least 21 years old to participate.
