The 107-55 108th St. two-story dwelling exploded about 1:40 p.m. on Nov. 27, according to the FDNY. A man who suffered from burns, according to published reports, was taken to the hospital in serious, but non-life-threatening condition. The location of the explosion was an illegally renovated apartment in the back of the house, according to fi re and National Grid offi cials. An investigation showed that the resident was trying to light the stove when the incident happened. 108TH PRECINCT Long Island City, Sunnyside and Woodside Man struck with brick during attempted robbery at Court Square ATM: cops An attacker used a brick stuffed into a pink stocking to hit a man in the head after he refused to hand over his cash at a Long Island City ATM, police said. The 32-year-old victim was withdrawing money inside the vestibule area of the 1 Court Square Citibank about 4:15 a.m. on Nov. 24 when the suspect approached him, authorities said. The suspect, while holding the stocking with the brick inside of it, then demanded money from the man. When the victim would not hand over his cash, the suspect swung the brick at the man and struck him in the head, according to police. He fl ed without taking any money. The victim refused medical attention. Police describe the suspect as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 230 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hat and black jacket. All calls are strictly confi dential. s police beat COMPILED BY CRISTABELLE TUMOLA Photo courtesy of NYPD Off-duty NYPD offi cer charged with DWI, leaving accident scene in Queens An off-duty NYPD offi cer was charged with driving while intoxicated after leaving the scene of an accident in Woodside, authorities said. The offi cer, identifi ed by police as Aaron Sanchez, 28, got into a fender bender at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and 50th Street about 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 28 before driving off in his Ford, the complaint said. The other driver reported the accident, according to media reports, after Sanchez struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle. A cop then spotted Sanchez’s car and proceeded to pull him over, court records said. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test after the offi cer noticed he had alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Sanchez was arraigned on Saturday on charges of DWI and leaving the scene of an accident, according to court records, and released on his own recognizance. Sunnyside man caught with stun guns, machete in luggage: PA A Sunnyside man allegedly on his way to a movie shoot in Dubai was busted with an array of weapons in his luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Jalil Dewan, 57, was due to depart from the airport the day before Thanksgiving when TSA agents discovered the contraband in his checked baggage, according to the Port Authority. An inspection found that the bags contained two stun guns, pellet guns, starter pistols, four boxes of pellets and a machete. Dewan admitted the bags belonged to him and indicated he was fl ying to a fi lm shoot in Dubai the morning of Nov. 26, authorities said. Port Authority police confi scated the items and Dewan was arrested. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon for the stun guns and received a desk appearance ticket.
