Queens rapper Nas will bring his
restaurant Sweet Chick to his home borough
next year.
Th e Long Island City native will open
a fi ft h location of his chicken and waffl
es joint in February 2018 at 46-42
Vernon Blvd., according to Darren
Gold, a spokesperson for the restaurant.
Sweet Chick was founded by Manhattan
native John Seymour in 2013 and Nas
became an investor and co-founder
shortly aft er.
Th e new restaurant
will pay
homage to Nas’
father Olu Dara,
an accomplished
jazz musician.
It will feature
a private back
room inspired by
Harlem jazz clubs
where the chicken
and waffles
dish has its roots,
Gold said. In addition
to releasing
two albums,
Dara was featured
in his son’s 1994
album “Illmatic”
and sang on the
song “Bridging the
Gap.”
“Nas’ partner
and Sweet Chick founder, fellow New
York native John Seymour, has been waiting
to help Nas bring their NY hot spot
and chicken & waffl es concept back to his
hood, but the timing wasn’t right… until
now,” Gold said in an email.
In addition to a variety of chicken
and waffl es dishes, the restaurant serves
up off erings such as duck and short rib
meatloaf, bavette steak, shrimp and grits
and cornmeal-crusted catfi sh. Brunch
dishes include eggs Benedict, pancakes,
steak and eggs, house-made granola and
smoked pork hash.
