BY ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport The St. Margaret’s/Resurrection Ascension Flyers track team took their mark to begin another race season this weekend when they kicked off their cross country season at Alley Pond Park. The Flyers began the season with some impressive performances, with racers taking home gold, silver and bronze medals in several categories. Taking fi rst place in their sectional were novice girls Aileen Mitarotonda, Olaia Higgins, Nora Olso, Mia Bonilla and Isadora Mulligan. Also receiving fi rst place medals were senior boys Ivan Boyadzhiev, Michael Hubert and John Ostling. Senior Ainara Higgins took home a silver medal for second place as well. The Flyers’ bronze medal recipients included novice boys Unai Higgins, Adrian Ithurradle, Conn Reilly, Brian Honan, Steven Honan, Robert Larkin, Gavin McMahon, Kevin Isca, Anthony Pedicini, Joshua Paz and Milo Cedeno. Other bronze medal winners were bantam boys Ricky Hubert, Sean Walsh, Andrew Kelly, Jack Larkin and Seamus Mcentee, as well as bantam girls Mackenize Collin, Lin Finnegan, Claudia Geneisi and Athelia Mulligan. A receiving bronze medals were junior boys Kacper Niepokoj, Victor Ostling, Nicholas Catapano and Joseph Browne. The Flyers coaches are equally proud of all their runners, such as peewee girls Camille Ithurralde, Ciara Reilly, Kaylee Ruiz and Emily Pedicini. In addition, peewee boys Sean Rueter, Gavin Walsh and Bobbi Welsh put on great performances. Other shining stars in the cross country season were junior girls Jayde Sabin, Isabelle Cedeno and Emily Browne. MASPETH’S MARTIN LUTHER SCHOOL TO HOST MID-WINTER BASKETBALL CAMP BY ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport Kids will have to the chance to learn basketball fundamentals this winter at the Cougar Mid-Winter Basketball Clinic. Martin Luther School (MLS), located at 60-02 Maspeth Ave. in Maspeth, will host the Cougar Mid-Winter Basketball Clinic this February for boys and girls ages 6 to 14. The program is a great way for young athletes to learn more about the game, all while having fun. The one-week session will run from Feb. 15 through Feb. 19, 2016. MLS’s Cougar Basketball Program emphasizes individual skills, basic fundamentals and team play in a positive coaching environment. Fundamentals include shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defensive techniques. Specifi c skills will be taught and practiced daily, with a focus on one main fundamental each day. The cost of the one-week program is $185 per student athlete, and lunch will be provided each day.
