Yankee Candle to leave Bay Terrace at the end of October

Aft er 20 years, Yankee Candle is shutting
its doors at Th e Bay Terrace shopping
center.
Earlier this week, word spread on a local
Facebook group that the fragrance purveyors
planned to close despite the store’s
continuous popularity. Mary Hughes, the
vice president of leasing at Cord Meyer,
confi rmed that the company is ending its
lease following plans to downsize nationwide.
Hughes said that Yankee Candle plans
to close 150 stores across the country,
with plans to close more in 2020.
“We used all our eff orts to keep Yankee
Candle,” said Hughes. “It’s one of our
favorite stores in Th e Bay Terrace and
we’re sorry to see it go.”
Hughes said that Yankee Candle’s lease
is up on Oct. 31 and the last day is “on or
around” that day. A Facebook user said
that a store employee confi rmed that the
shop’s last day is Oct. 29.
Th e shop opened at Th e Bay Terrace in
October 1999 and off ers more than 150
candle fragrances, seasonal and specialty
scented candles, candle accessories, home
fragrance products and car air fresheners.
According to the company’s website,
candles and accessories are available at
the company-owned retail stores, in catalogs,
online and at specialty retailers in
the United States.
Hughes said that while Cord Meyer
does not currently have any prospects
to fi ll the storefront, they are “marketing
the space.”
New Spectrum store off ers residents convenient services in Forest Hills

A new Spectrum store opened its doors
in Forest Hills on Tuesday.
Th e new storefront, located at 71-40
Austin St., will be open from 10 a.m. to
8 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and
from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Customers will be able to complete
transactions, including accounting payments
and upgrading or exchanging
equipment, and can ask about the services
the cable and internet company has
to off er in an “enjoyable and relaxed environment,”
according to Spectrum.
Pattie Eliason, the group vice president
of Spectrum Stores, explained what else
Forest Hills residents can expect from the
new storefront in a statement.
“Our new Spectrum stores provide an
updated design and enhancements for showcasing
innovation across the full suite of
Spectrum services,” Eliason said. “Our representatives
will show customers the latest
advances in technology — including our
exciting new Spectrum Mobile options —
help them become familiar with using it
and put together just the right package of
Spectrum services for their home and family.”
Th ere are several other Spectrum stores
located in Queens, including the following
locations:
28-56 Steinway St.and 31-01 23rd Ave.
in Astoria;
23-58A Bell Blvd. in Bayside;
90-15 Queens Blvd. at the Queens
Center Mall in Elmhurst;
4024 College Point Blvd. at the Skyview
Mall in Flushing;
164-10 Jamaica Ave. and 133-19 Atlantic
