Prep President, Bro. Leonard Conway, O.S.F. at St. Francis Secondary School in Lare, Kenya On Sunday, October 19th, St. Francis Prep (Fresh Meadows, Queens), will be recognized by the Diocese of Brooklyn at a special Mass and ceremony at St. James Cathedral-Basilica in Brooklyn. Prep has earned this recognition due to its partnering with St. Francis Secondary School in Lare, Kenya. Kenyan students lack many of the fundamental resources that are commonplace to Prep students in Queens. Last year, during Lent, the entire Prep student body, marshaled by Campus Ministers Christian Sullivan and Shawn Sempowich, raised money to specifically buy desks and Kenyan students display bicycles purchased with funds raised by students at St. Francis Prep These annual undertakings give Prep students the chance to reflect on what they have available to them in their education, as well as animate the Franciscan ideal of helping those less fortunate. The Cathedral-Basilica of St. James is located at Jay Street and Cathedral Place, Brooklyn, NY 11201 one block NORTH of Tillary Street. The Mass begins at 10:30, and will be concelebrated by Prep’s chaplain, Fr. William Sweeney.
