Early detection of breast cancer through mammographies has proven effective in helping women survive the disease. Even so, thousands of women each year do not get their mammograms because they are uninsured and/or cannot afford the costs. The American-Italian Cancer Foundation’s (AICF) mobile, No-Cost Breast Cancer Screening Program, which provides no-cost mammograms and clinical breast exams to uninsured and medically underserved New York City women, will be hosting 22 screening events in October all throughout New York City. In Queens, the mobile screening van will make the following stops this month: • Wednesday, Oct. 12, Queens Health Center, 97-04 Sutphin Blvd., Jamaica, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. • Thursday, Oct. 13, The Floating Hospital, 41-40 27th St., Long Island City, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. • Wednesday, Oct. 19, the office of Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras-Copeland, 32-33 Junction Blvd., Corona, 2-5 p.m. • Thursday, Oct. 27, JFK International Airport Building 146, between Bergen Place and 130th Street, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. • Saturday, Oct. 29, Elmcor Youth and Adult ACT, 107-20 Northern Blvd., 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. • Saturday, Oct. 29, Christ Pentecostal Temple, 109-45 157th St., Jamaica, 2-5 p.m. • Sunday, Oct. 30, the office of Assemblyman Mike Miller, 83-91 Woodhaven Blvd., Woodhaven, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Women aged 40 or older who live in New York City and have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months are eligible to participate.
