Police responded to the Photo courtesy of NYPD call of shots fired at about 4:42 p.m. in the vicinity of Beach 59th Street and Shore Front Parkway, and found a 12-year-old girl shot in her left thigh by a male suspect who fled the scene, according to cops. After speaking with witnesses, police saw the man fleeing through a parking lot and jump over a fence. After searching for the suspect, they found him on the corner of Beach 60th Street and Larkin Street together with a woman, police said. The man, identified as 18-year-old Dwight Henderson, then was seen handing over a firearm to a woman, identified as 16-yearold Geena Hill. Both were then arrested, and a loaded 9mm gun was recovered, according to police. The 12-year-old victim was taken to North Shore LIJ Hospital in stable condition. Henderson was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and resting arrest. Hill was charged with criminal possession of a weapon. 106th Precinct South central Queens Police looking for suspect in South Ozone Park attempted robbery The NYPD is looking for a suspect wanted for the attempted robbery of a 65-yearold woman. On Aug. 6 at about 2:10 p.m. the victim was on the corner of 130th Street and 109th Avenue when she was pushed from behind by the suspect as he tried to grab her purse, police said. This caused her to fall to the ground and hit her head on the sidewalk. The suspect then fled the scene. Photo courtesy of NYPD The victim sustained swelling and bruising to her head and was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to cops. Police released photos of the suspect who they describe as a man with brown eyes, short black hair and about 5 feet 5 inches tall. He was last seen wearing white sneakers and blue jeans. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). 110th Precinct Corona and Elmhurst Man charged with shooting at cops in Elmhurst A man wanted for shooting at cops in Elmhurst this June was apprehended in New Jersey and charged with attempted murder, officials said. Christian Mosquera, 20, of Corona, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Aug. 6 on charges of attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, prosecutors said. A sergeant and police officer, both in uniform and in a marked police car, were responding to a trespassing call around 1:50 a.m. on June 21 when they saw a man chasing another man and firing shots at him at Lamont Avenue and Forley Street, according to police. The cops jumped from their car and ordered the man to drop the gun, but instead he turned on them, raised the weapon and shot at them, authorities said. The officers returned fire, but no one was hit in the exchange. When Mosquera fled, he allegedly left behind a .22 caliber pistol. Shortly after the incident, police offered a $12,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction, and released a photo of Mosquera, identifying him as a suspect. According to the district attorney’s office, when Mosquera was apprehended he allegedly told Union City, N.J., officers that “I know this is about that thing in New York. I saw it on the news. I saw my picture in the paper. I wasn’t shooting at police. I shot one or two times at someone else.” 115th Precinct East Elmhurst, Corona and Jackson Heights Woman dead after Jackson Heights apartment fire A 46-year-old woman is dead after a fire at a Jackson Heights home. Police responded to the call of a fire at 85-10 34th Ave. at about 3 a.m. on Aug. 9, and, after the FDNY extinguished the blaze, Sophia Paz was found unconscious and unresponsive in the apartment’s bedroom, according to cops. Paz was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. The cause of the fire was a stove burner that ignited nearby objects, according to the FDNY. Woman dies in Grand Central Parkway motorcycle crash A motorcyclist was injured and his passenger was killed when he lost control of his bike on the Grand Central Parkway, cops said. The crash happened while the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on the roadway at about 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 12 just before the 94th Street exit in East Elmhurst, according to police. The bike’s operator, a 21-year-old man, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition with injuries to his shoulder and legs, authorities said. His 20-year-old passenger, Giuseppina Lascalia of Astoria, was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. s police beat Compiled by Cristabelle Tumola, Angy Altamirano and Benjamin Fang Two women accused of abusing young exchange students at Little Neck tutoring academy Two women, Sun Kyung Park, 33, and Min Kyung “Pamela” Chea, 34, have been charged with endangering the welfare of four Korean abroad students in a private tutoring academy in Little Neck, the district attorney’s office announced on Aug. 7. The women are accused of forcing the children, ages 9 through 11, to do physically abusive activities. One student had to hold six to eight books above his head for extended periods of time and was struck repeatedly with a spiral notebook, according to District Attorney Richard Brown. They also allegedly withheld food and water and limited the boys’ usage of the bathroom. Park, from Oakland Gardens, is charged with assault and endangering the welfare, and could face up to seven years of prison if convicted, prosecutors said. Chea, a Little Neck resident, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and attempted assault, and may be looking at up to one year in jail.
