Th ousands of Queens residents enjoyed
an evening of free food and entertainment
hosted by New York’s Finest during
Tuesday’s “National Night Out Against
Crime” events.
Each precinct from Astoria to Far
Rockaway held block party-style events,
bringing guests young and old out to
enjoy a warm summer evening while also
getting to know the offi cers who patrol
their communities.
City offi cials visited each Night Out
event to present proclamations from
Mayor Bill de Blasio recognizing National
Night Out, an event held across the
United States and Canada on the fi rst
Tuesday in August to promote public
safety and greater police-community relations.
De Blasio himself visited the 103rd
Precinct’s Night Out event at Rufus King
Park in Jamaica, recognizing local offi cers
for their ongoing crime-fi ghting eff orts.
Looking around Queens, there was
plenty of fun things to see and do for
children of all ages at the Night Out
events, including face painting at the
114th Precinct Night Out in Astoria;
pony rides at the 108th Precinct event in
Woodside; marching bands at the 110th
Precinct Night Out in Flushing Meadows
Corona Park; and double dutch at the
100th Precinct in Rockaway. Kids at the
111th Precinct event in Douglaston got to
check out police vehicles and all the different
equipment police use every day to
keep their neighborhood safe.
