The accident occurred at 6:11 p.m. on July 19 at the corner of 119th Avenue and 231st Street. Authorities said Garth Jackson, 50, of Elmont, N.Y., was riding in the front passenger seat of a Honda sedan operated by his 19-year-old son; Jackson’s 47-year-old wife was in the backseat. Reportedly, Jackson’s son ignored a stop sign while traveling southbound on 231st Street, and the sedan was broadsided by a vehicle traveling eastbound on 119th Avenue operated by a 17-year-old male, whom police said had a learner’s permit. Officers from the 105th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Jackson was rushed to Franklin General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His son was taken to Jamaica Hospital and his wife was removed to North Shore Manhasset Hospital; both were listed in stable condition. The 17-year-old driver was rushed by paramedics to Long Island Jewish Medical Center and was listed in stable condition. As of press time, no arrests had been made, and the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was investigating. Cops seek pair for failed bank robbery attempt in Laurelton Two would-be robbers walked out of a Laurelton bank the same way they came in — empty-handed. Police released security camera images of the duo behind the failed heist at the Chase bank located at 231-02 Merrick Blvd., which took place at 8:42 a.m. on July 16. According to authorities, the crooks — both described as black males — walked into the branch, approached a teller and handed over a demand note. When the teller refused to comply with their request, police said, the suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction. Officers from the 105th Precinct responded to the scene. No injuries were reported. One of the would-be thieves was last seen wearing a red Philadelphia Phillies baseball hat and a white Tshirt, while his partner wore a white and black baseball hat and a black T-shirt. Anyone with information regarding the suspects’ whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800- 577-TIPS. 113th Precinct St. Albans, Hollis, Springfield Gardens, South Ozone Park, Jamaica, Addisleigh Park and Locust Manor Two wanted for robbing teen on St. Albans street corner Detectives are looking for two men — one of whom claimed to be armed — who robbed a teenager at a St. Albans intersection last month. The NYPD released security camera images of one of the suspects wanted for the June 15 robbery that occurred at the intersection of 110th Avenue and Merrick Boulevard near the Brinkherhoff Mall. At about 2:45 p.m. that day, authorities said, the two men approached the 17-yearold male victim and demanded his cellphone. When the victim refused to comply, one of the perpetrators told him he had a firearm. The suspects then grabbed the victim’s cellphone and backpack, then fled on foot. The robbery was reported to the 113th Precinct. The victim was not injured. Both perpetrators are described as black men between 20 and 25 years of age. Port Authority Police slammed the brakes on a Brooklyn man’s alleged scheme to illegally rent out cars he allegedly stole from a lot at John F. Kennedy Airport. According to Port Authority Police, Dorien L. Holmes, 23, of East 98th Street allegedly removed at least three vehicles — a Ford Focus, a Hyundai Elantra and a Ford Mustang — from the Avis Car Rental lot at JFK Airport and other locations. After stealing the cars, authorities said, Holmes allegedly posted advertisements on Craigslist offering to rent the vehicles, which he claimed to own, to drivers for $350 a week or up to $1,000 per month. An ad for the Hyundai Elantra claimed that the vehicle came with insurance and E-ZPass. Holmes was taken into custody by the Port Authority detectives on Tuesday night after he was spotted driving the Ford Mustang at the corner of 123rd Avenue and 144th Street in Jamaica. Citing information obtained during the investigation, a law enforcement source said the suspect was known to frequent the area where he was arrested. The Mustang and the other two vehicles in question were seized as a result of the investigation. On July 16, Holmes was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on charges of grand larceny, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property and driving with a suspended license. He was released on his own recognizance.
