When Gregory Solometo’s beloved grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he learned firsthand exactly how challenging it can be to find quality elder care. From difficulty retaining inhome caregivers to witnessing the less-than-desirable environments in many nursing home facilities, he decided to use his business background to find a solution that would not only benefit individual elders, but also relieve their loved ones from the burden of finding trusted, high-quality assistance. In 2006, approximately three years into his grandmother’s battle with Alzheimer’s, Solometo thought to use his family’s own situation as the foundation for an organization that would address the shortcomings of many elder caregivers. After years of working in banking, Solometo decided to put his finance experience and client service skills to use in a different way. He joined forces with two critical care nurses from Columbia University and founded Alliance Homecare. “We merged the nurses’ clinical skills and my business skills to create the best homecare service in New York City,” says Solometo. “As someone who was brought up by his grandparents, and remained very close with them as an adult, I strongly felt that this model would serve so many other families just like mine,” says Solometo. Today, after over a decade caring for New York City’s elderly, Alliance Homecare is helping patients and their families to thrive. With offices in Manhattan, Woodbury, and West Nyack, Alliance covers the greater New York area with ease. Services offered include private duty nursing, home health aides, companions, geriatric care management, physical therapy, nutritional counseling and more. According to Solometo, Alliance Homecare offers a comprehensive model of care services, meaning that every service provided by the organization is selected and vetted by caregivers themselves to ensure top-notch quality. Alliance calls its own model of caregiving “concierge home care,” meaning that every aspect of an elder’s care is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual and his or her family. The Alliance Homecare staff makes every effort to foster a collaborative, comprehensive, and compassionate approach to the care of each client. This 360-degree approach includes providing fullservice home care delivery, dual intake with a registered nurse and licensed clinical social worker, monthly in-person case manager visits, physician
