The remains, now identifi ed as 26-year-old Westerley Osson, whose address is unknown, were found inside the duffel bag the morning of March 30 near 14-52 Gipson St., according to authorities. On July 1, the medical examiner determined the cause of death to be from homicidal asphyxia, according to a spokeswoman from the offi ce. 104th Precinct Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village and Maspeth COPS ARREST MIDDLE VILLAGE, RIDGEWOOD RESIDENTS IN FIREWORKS BUST Two Middle Village residents and a Ridgewood man were arrested for illegally possessing fi reworks as part of the NYPD’s ongoing crackdown on unlawful pyrotechnics leading up to Independence Day. The 104th Precinct stopped Middle Village’s Jason Rodriguez, 28, and Tina Foley, 29, at 9:50 p.m. on July 2 at the intersection of 65th Place and Admiral Avenue in Middle Village. Reportedly, they were found in possession of $2,000 in illegal fi reworks, some of which were left unattended with a 3-year-old child in their car. Additionally, the precinct also took into custody Wilfredo Maisonave, 32, of Ridgewood after he was caught possessing fi reworks in front of a location on Woodward Compiled by Cristabelle Tumola and Robert Pozarycki Avenue between Flushing Avenue and Troutman Street at about 7 p.m. on July 2. Everyone is welcome to enjoy professionally operated and permitted fi reworks displays such as the Macy’s 4th of July spectacular on the East River, but it is illegal for residents to set off their own fi reworks. Anyone who witnesses fi reworks being illegally used or sold in New York City is urged to call 911. DETECTIVES COLLAR SUSPECT IN RIDGEWOOD RAPE ATTEMPT Police charged a Brooklyn man with the attempted rape of a woman whom he followed into a Ridgewood apartment building. Larry Williams, 24, of Bedford-Stuyvesant is accused of trying to sexually assault a 28-year-old woman on the 1900 block of Palmetto Street at about 9:15 a.m. on June 25. Reportedly, he was not known to the victim. According to authorities, Williams followed the victim into the building, then confronted her as she attempted to enter her apartment. Reportedly, the suspect tried to pull the victim’s pants down. Police said the victim engaged in a physical struggle with Williams, then managed to enter her apartment and lock the door behind her. Williams reportedly attempted to push the door open, but his efforts failed and he fl ed the scene. The incident was reported to the 104th Precinct; the woman was not injured. Members of the NYPD Queens Special Victims Squad tracked down Williams and arrested him on June 30 following questioning at the 112th Precinct’s Forest Hills stationhouse, where the squad is based. Williams is charged with attempted rape, burglary, sex abuse and forcible touching. Two women are accused of turning their Cambria Heights home into a pot farm and stealing more than $64,000 worth of electricity from Con Edison to help run their operation, prosecutors said. Larraysha Conklin, 28, and Julene Mercano, 50, are charged with second-degree grand larceny, fi rstdegree criminal possession of marijuana and theft of service, according to the district attorney’s offi ce. “The defendants are accused of having transformed the second fl oor of their residence into a virtual pot farm, which required high wattage lights and constant air-conditioning in order for the plants to grow. It is alleged that in an effort to cut their overhead costs, the defendant stole tens of thousands of dollars in unmetered electricity from Con Edison,” District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement on July 2. Police from the 105th Precinct uncovered the marijuana after executing a search warrant on the women’s 219th Street home on the morning of July 1. On the second fl oor, police allegedly found 41 marijuana plants in two separate rooms and growing equipment that included multiple 1,000-watt lights, power fans, air-conditioning units, dehumidifi ers and carbon dioxide generators. Police additionally allegedly recovered on the second fl oor a small tub containing marijuana from a freezer and another small container of marijuana from a closet, as well as chemicals used for plant growth. Finally, according to prosecutors, it was uncovered that multiple Con Edison lines were being used to manipulate the service boxes to the home. The estimated bill for unmetered service at the residence between May 31, 2013, through July 1, 2015, was approximately $64,792, but Mercado’s electric bills were only a fraction of the amount of electricity being used at the location, prosecutors said.
