BY CHARLIE PERRY cperry@qns.com/@QueensCourier Stephanie Hanley’s third-grade class at P.S. 207 joined elected offi cials and the Department of Transportation (DOT) on June 21 to unveil new student-designed traffi c safety signs outside the Howard Beach elementary school. Just over a year ago, the students wrote to Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder to request pedestrian safety measures at crosswalks leading to the school. Students were given the go-ahead to design the safety signs in the heavily traffi cked area. “Traffi c safety, particularly around schools, has always been a priority,” Goldfeder said in a phone conversation with The Courier. The safety signs were created by students as a school project. They worked closely with DOT traffi c experts under the guidance of DOT Queens Borough Commissioner Nicole Garcia.
