42 The Courier SUN • JUNE 18, 2015 for breaking news visit www.couriersun.com VICTORIA SCHNEPS-YUNIS vschneps@gmail.com What could be better than to begin a week with a newborn baby brought into the world by my children and end the week with my granddaughter’s dance recitals? Sloane Londyn came home to her brother Hudson, and mother and child are fortunately flourishing. Then, I had the biggest belly laugh ever watching 4-year-old Addy and her 3-year-old friends dance onto the stage to cheering, adoring family members in the overflowing auditorium. Each of the dozen girls danced, twirled, bowed and threw kisses to the cheering family members. I laughed so hard as each one looked at the other doing her own rendition to the pretty music. It seemed only moments ago when 30 years ago I watched my daughters dancing their hearts out dressed as little lions brought onto the stage in a golden cage! What a memory! Today, memories were made too! New Kings join our Network For several years we have been honoring men who are leaders in their industry at our Kings events in Brooklyn and Queens. This past week, I was proud to expand our Star Network to Staten Island and bring our neighboring borough the Kings of Staten Island held at the stunning Hilton Garden Inn just a few minutes from the Verrazano Bridge. The jam-packed expo room began the night of networking. That was followed by the dinner awards begun by the brilliant Danny Rodriguez who sang a spine-tingling rendition of “God Bless America.” What a powerful beginning to a magical night of good will and generosity. We raised over $3,000 for two causes – the Seton Foundation for children with autism and Kids Against Cancer. It doesn’t get better than making new business contacts and helping children in need in our communities! Then, later in the week, I had the pleasure of joining my friends Gina Argento and her husband John Ciafone at the gala for the Queens Botanical Gardens, an oasis of beauty and serenity run successfully by Susan Lacerte. I was delighted to win a raffle prize for a basket filled with lush flowers and plants attractively arranged by longtime supporter of the botanical garden, Keil Brothers, now at Garden World on Francis Lewis Boulevard. It is something I will treasure. 40th anniversary The week was also the official 40th anniversary celebration for the unique North Shore Towers off the Grand Central Parkway between Little Neck Parkway and Lakeville Road. For the past eight years, we have created a newspaper just for the three towers and their 5,000 residents. I think there is no complex like it anywhere in the United States. Right in our backyard is the ultimate gated community with its own golf course, country club, tennis courts good enough to host the junior USTA competitors, indoor and outdoor pools, and a gym with trainers. Then there is a shopping arcade where a party was held on Sunday for the residents. Each store offered special treats including Pouran Beauty & Boutique. Then, steps away, there were the two grocery stores giving out samples and Tower Drugstore offering free blood pressure testing. Turn the corner and there was a dunk tank offered by the garage car wash and face painting courtesy of the North Shore Towers Courier! I walked on past the movie theater to the real estate offices and restaurant owners serving hot dogs, pretzels and ice cream outside on the garden patio. What a special environment. Kudos to the team that put together a gala dance Saturday night and community festival to celebrate the complex’s continuous success these past 40 years. It’s a place of pride and beauty in our County of Queens. 25th anniversary To end the week, I had the pleasure of being invited by Angela Susan Anton, publisher of a chain of newspapers in Nassau County and chair of the board of the Nassau County Museum of Art, to the museum’s 25th anniversary ball honoring my friends Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and his predecessor Tom Gulotta. It was a perfect night to be under the stars with the cool breezes to enjoy the beauty of the institution that has multiple exhibitions and welcomes schools and children to its unique setting on 140 acres nestled off Northern Boulevard in Roslyn. Pay a visit.
