Edward Harris, 28, of 159th Street, took a bullet to the head in front of a home on Union Hall Street between 107th and 108th avenues at 9:13 p.m. on May 6. Officers from the 103rd Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene and found him unconscious and unresponsive. Harris was brought to Jamaica Hospital, where he died of his injuries on May 12. No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing. 105th Precinct Queens Village Man gets shot, bites cop after Queens Village pursuit This driver didn’t know when to stop, but when he was arrested, he took a bite out of a crimefighter. A man who refused to obey police orders to park his car led police on a wild pursuit through Queens Village on the night of May 11 that ended with the suspect getting shot in the leg — and sinking his teeth into a cop, police reported. The trouble began at 10:54 p.m. on May 11 at the corner of Hollis Avenue and 212th Street, where three members of the 105th Precinct Anti- Crime Unit observed the suspect — Ramell Lockwood, 30, of Hempstead, NY — make a traffic infraction while behind the wheel of a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan. Authorities said the officers attempted to stop the vehicle two blocks away in the area of Hollis Avenue and 214th Street. An officer who approached the driver’s side of the sedan directed Lockwood to place the car in park, and the suspect reportedly refused to do so. This prompted a sergeant assigned to the Anti- Crime Team to open the passenger door; he was inside the vehicle when Lockwood suddenly hit the gas pedal and sped away. Additional officers in an unmarked police vehicle stopped the Mercedes three blocks away at the corner of 217th Street and Hollis Avenue. At the location, police said, the sergeant engaged in a physical struggle with Lockwood, who pulled out a firearm, a Glock handgun later recovered at the scene. The sergeant then pulled out his service revolver and opened fire, striking Lockwood in the right leg. Though he was injured, law enforcement sources noted, Lockwood continued struggling with additional officers as they took him into custody. During the struggle, he allegedly bit one of the officers in the left arm. Paramedics brought Lockwood to Queens Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The bitten officer — whose identity was not disclosed — was treated for his injuries at Long Island Jewish Medical Center; five other officers were also taken there for evaluation and released. Lockwood was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment. 106th Precinct Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill Fire led to casino’s evacuation Patrons at the Resorts World casino in Jamaica were evacuated on May 14 after an electrical fire broke out. The fire at the Jamaica casino was reported at about 10:45 p.m. on May 14, a spokesperson for Resorts World said. According to AP, the fire was brought under control approximately 30 minutes later. The casino was evacuated but guests were allowed back in shortly after on May 15, the spokesperson said. There were no reported injuries. Three men arrested and charged after a shooting at St. John’s University Police units rushed to St. John’s University on the afternoon of May 11 after receiving a 911 call about shots fired on the Jamaica campus. The reported shooting occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. inside the campus at 8000 Utopia Parkway in Jamaica. According to police, three men entered room 510 at Hollis Hall dormitory and attempted to rob four men inside of the room. A shot was fired but the bullet bounced of the wall and nobody was injured. Three individuals then fled on foot, emptyhanded on 167th Street where they were arrested. Previous reported rumors about the gun used in the robbery being a BB gun were denied by the police who confirmed it was a revolver. Three men were charged with the following: • Mustafa Godbolt (21) who fired from the gun was charged with robbery, burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a Basement Waterproofing Brickwork Exposed “Aggregate Concrete” Pavers • Masonry gun and criminal possession of a controlled substance (Xanax). • Sutpon Tyrrel (17) was charged with robbery, burglary and criminal possession of a gun (a knife). • Anthony Gusthas (18) was charged with robbery and burglary. Interestingly, the last day to move out of the freshmen Hollis Hall dormitory was on Thursday, May 12, and a majority of underclassmen had moved out by the time of the shooting, a student on the campus told The Courier. The 510 room where the shooting occurred is a 10-person room. It is unclear whether the campus security was available at Hollis Hall at the time of the robbery. St. John’s representative said in a statement: “Safety is a top priority at St. John’s and, at this time, there is no continuing threat to the campus community. The University is working closely with the NYPD which is continuing its investigation at this time.” Kew Gardens Spring Sunday May 22nd, 2016 (Rain date: Sunday June 5, 2016) 9AM - 5PM All Vendor Fees bene t Jamaica Hospital Medical Center Pediatric Dept.
