Taiwan’s popular chain Tiger Sugar
Bubble Tea is roaring in the heart of
downtown Flushing.
Tiger Sugar, a brand that originated
in Taichung, Taiwan, with over 40-plus
stores worldwide, celebrated the grand
opening of its fi rst North American store
in Flushing on May 11 with a dragon
dance and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“I’m very excited. I really want to bring
the original taste of Taiwanese bubble
tea to North America,” said Calvin Sun,
CEO of Tiger Sugar New York, via translator
Kit Lee.
Tiger Sugar, located at 40-10 Main St.,
off ered its fi rst three customers (out of
100) in line a special gift of Taiwanese
brown sugar biscuits and a Tiger Sugar
model fi gurine. Th e other customers also
received the famous brown sugar biscuits.
Known for its milk drink added with
dark brown sugar syrup and tiger stripes
formed as a layer of sugar coated on the
inner side of the cup, Tiger Sugar is a dessert
drink trend that has swept Asia. Its
number one best seller is the brown sugar
boba milk with cream mousse.
“We have a very secret and unique formula
for making the brown sugar in
Taiwan,” Sun said. “We import all of the
brown sugar, which America doesn’t have.
Th e formula and ingredients will make
the smell of the brown sugar combining
bubble and whole milk together, making
a drink with a lot of layers with a refreshing
taste. Th is is a third-generation bubble
tea.”
Th e fi rst Tiger Sugar store was opened
in Taiwan in November of 2017. Th e popular
brand has since then expanded to
other countries such as China, Singapore,
Korea, Malaysia, Th ailand, Philippines,
Canada, and soon in Australia.
According to Sun, they’re defi nitely
looking forward to opening another store
in the future in Queens and outside of
New York.
“We decided to open our 48th store
in Flushing because most of the people
are of Southeast Asia demographic,” Sun
said. “However, Flushing is also ethnically
diverse, so we have a lot of people gathered
here, and we think this is the perfect
location.”
Tiger Sugar is open for business Monday
through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
