Elmhurst Hospital workers to receive free
post-pandemic complimentary vacation

More than 4,000 employees at NYC
Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst will each
receive a free, three-night vacation from
American Airlines and Hyatt Hotels once
the COVID-19 pandemic subsides, the
airline and hotel announced last week.
Th e partnership is a showing of thanks
to the doctors, physician assistants, nurses
and the facilities and food employees who
staff ed one of the hospitals hardest hit by
COVID-19. Th e vacation destinations will
be around the U.S. and Caribbean.

Northwell Health, New York’s largest
healthcare provider, has been named the
most diverse health system in the U.S.,
DiversityInc announced this month.
“We’ve built a culture of care that puts our
patients fi rst. Th at would not be possible
without team members who feel they work
in an environment that accentuates empowerment,
diversity and inclusion,” said Joseph
Moscola, senior vice president and chief
people offi cer at Northwell Health. “We
believe in helping our workforce along
their journey to self-fulfi llment. Th at path
includes providing excellent benefi ts, an
opportunity to advance and access educational
tools to hone current and new skills.”
Th e hospital system, which employs
around 72,000 people, was chosen as the
most diverse health system over more
than 1,000 organizations for its eff orts
to formalize its diversity, inclusion and
health equity strategy. DiversityInc evaluated
hospitals using a 200-question survey
focused on leadership accountability,
human capital diversity metrics, talent
programs, workforce practices, supplier
diversity and philanthropy.

the elimination of health disparities,” said

and chief diversity and inclusion
offi cer. “On our journey to health equity,
Northwell has been intentional with formalized
strategies, dedicated resources
and the implementation of an expanded
health care delivery model which fosters a
partnership with our communities to provide
culturally customized care.”
Northwell Health recently signed the
American Hospital Association’s national
equity of a care pledge, a national call for
health equity through the elimination of
health care disparities.

According to American, the donation is
the largest total fl ight count ever given to
an organization by the airline. With the
purpose of unwinding and spending time
with their families aft er months of tireless
work in the hospital, Elmhurst staff will
be provided wellbeing experiences, meals
and beverages and outdoor activities in
Hyatt hotels.

health care workers, who
have been at the epicenter
of the COVID-19 pandemic,”
