FDNY battles fi re inside
Queens Village barber shop
FDNY members fought off a fi re inside
a Queens Village barber shop on the
morning of Wednesday, April 7.
Emergency calls about the fi re, which
broke out inside Hollis Finest Barber Spa,
located at 206-10 Hollis Ave., around 9:30
a.m. on April 7, according to the FDNY.
Around 12 units – or about 60 FDNY
members – showed up to fi nd smoke
coming out of the one-story commercial
building, according to the authorities.
Th e smoke was coming out of the barber
shop pretty thick,” a witness at the
scene said. “I was worried it would spread
to the supermarket.”
Firefi ghters got the fl ames under control
less than an hour later, around 10:10
a.m., the fi re department said.
No one was injured as a result of the
incident.
Th e cause of the fi re is under investigation
by the FDNY’s fi re marshal’s offi ce.

Cops seek attacker who
punched woman in throat on
train in Jackson Heights
Police are looking for a man who punched a
woman in the throat while riding a subway train
near Jackson Heights last month.
On Wednesday, March 24, around 5:30 p.m., a
62-year-old woman was riding on an E train as it
approached the Roosevelt Avenue station, according
to the NYPD.
Th e woman was approached by an unidentifi
ed man who suddenly punched her in the throat,
cops said. Th e motive of the attack is currently
unknown, police said.
Th e man then hopped off the train at the
Roosevelt Avenue station and got onto a northbound
F train.
Th e 62-year-old refused medical treatment at the
station despite suff ering an injury to her neck.
Police describe the attacker as being between the
ages of 20 and 30 years old, standing around 5 feet,
6 inches tall with a medium build. He was last seen
wearing a dark-colored jacket, a blue shirt, dark-colored
pants and carrying a dark-colored backpack.
No arrests have been made and the investigation
is ongoing.

Cops seek man behind Ridgewood bank robbery
Police are looking for a bank robber who made off with nearly
$5,000 from a Ridgewood bank on Tuesday, April 6.
According to the authorities, the unidentifi ed man walked into
Chase Bank, located at 6067 Myrtle Ave., around 10:55 a.m. on
April 6, and handed a bank teller a note demanding cash.
Th e man then told the teller that he had a gun, cops said.
Th e teller handed over $4,800 in cash and the robber fl ed in an
unknown direction, according to the police.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
