Acting Queens BP, DA Katz team up for Black History Month celebration

Acting Queens Borough President
Sharon Lee and Queens District Attorney
Melinda Katz hosted their annual Black
History Month celebration on Wednesday,
Feb. 26 at the Queens Borough Hall’s
Helen Marshall Cultural Center.
Th e joyful event featured live music by
Bartlett Contemporaries and dance performances
by the DeVore Dance Center.
Lee and Katz also presented awards to
10 Black and African American leaders
in the borough, and gave eight students
scholarships. Th e family of William
Tucker Garvin, Queen’s fi rst African-
American Assistant District Attorney, also
received a special honor.
