On Sunday, Feb. 21, at 9:20 p.m., four men approached a 32-year-old man in the vicinity of 77th Street and 95th Avenue. The four suspects surrounded and assaulted the victim before taking his AM/FM transistor radio and his earphones. Following the incident, the suspects fled westbound on 95th Avenue. The victim suffered lacerations and bruising to his face. The suspects are described as black men between the ages of 16 and 20, standing between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. They were last seen wearing dark-colored clothing. Photo courtesy of NYPD Thieves snatch chain on the train Cops are looking for a pair of unidentified crooks wanted for stealing a man’s necklace before bolting off an E train in Kew Gardens last weekend in an early morning transit grand larceny. According to police, one of the two criminals approached the 23-year-old victim from behind, just as the Queensbound E train pulled into the Jamaica/ Van Wyck station at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5. When the doors opened, law enforcement agents said, the first unidentified man grabbed the victim’s necklace, causing the chain and an angel pendant to fall onto the victim’s chest. The second suspect then snatched the chain and pendant, valued at $300, from the victim’s chest and surveillance video caught him exiting the train and subway station. The first suspect fled the train in an unknown direction. He was described as a black male with a beard, last seen wearing glasses and a distinctive beanie cap. The victim continued on the train and later reported the incident to officers from the 102nd Precinct. Photo courtesy of NYPD 104th Precinct Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village Two injured in apartment house fire Two people were injured after a blaze ignited inside a Middle Village apartment building on the morning of Feb. 20, the FDNY said. According to the Fire Department, the one-alarm inferno broke out at about 7:24 a.m. on Feb. 20 on the second floor of a two-story residence on 79th Place between Metropolitan Avenue and Juniper Valley Road. Sixty firefighters from 12 Fire Department units responded to the scene along with the 104th Precinct and EMS units. The two injured residents were treated at the scene for injuries not considered life-threatening. Other residents inside the apartment house were able to exit on their own. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at about 8:32 a.m.; the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation, Fire Department sources said. Parkway hit-and-run ruled a homicide An assault that turned into a deadly hit-and-run on the Grand Central Parkway has been ruled a homicide. Police have arrested Yomar Moran, 20, on murder charges on Thursday, Feb. 16, in connection to the assault that took place before the victim’s death. On Saturday, Feb. 4, at 4:20 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision on the eastbound Grand Central Parkway near 49th Avenue in Corona. Upon arrival, they found Hassan Jones, 28, unconscious and unresponsive and with severe body trauma. EMS responded to the location and pronounced Jones dead at the scene. An investigation conducted by the NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad found that Jones had been a passenger in a black Infiniti sedan that was involved in a minor car accident with a gray Nissan Murano while traveling eastbound on Grand Central Parkway. According to police, the drivers and Jones got out of their cars and Jones was assaulted, causing him to fall into the road. The drivers fled the scene following the assault. While Jones was lying in the road, he was struck by a white Acura sedan. The sedan was operated by Starlyn-Antonio Colon-Burgos, 19, who abandoned his car at the scene and took off on foot. Colon-Burgos was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, resulting in death. Following an investigation, police arrested Yomar Moran, who has been charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. The investigation is ongoing.
