Children from ages 5 to 12 will learn about the art of bookbinding as well as other hands-on art activities. The workshop will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Admission to this workshop is free and no registration is required. The Queens Museum is located in the New York City Building in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The Lightwire Theatre’s “Moon Mouse: a Space Odyssey” is more than your run of the mill play. This show includes luminescent character costumes made from recyclable materials such as pipes, tape, backpacks and fi shing rods. This play for audiences ages 5 to 10, is about a mouse who feels out of place in his neighborhood. But once this mouse travels into space and meets all new creatures, he learns what it truly means to fi t in. This hour-long show will have two consecutive showings, one at 1 p.m. and the other at 2 p.m. The Queens Theatre is located on 14 United Nations Ave. South in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Calligraphy is such an awe-inspiring style of writing. The only thing that could make it better, is if it were written on a fan, a Chinese fan to be exact. Flushing Town Hall hosts its calligraphy event in honor of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Participants will start by practicing their calligraphy style New Year’s wishes on paper and then transfer their messages over onto fans. This will immortalize your wish for the new year and hopefully bring you the best of luck! The event begins at 1:30 p.m. in Flushing Town Hall located on 137- 35 Northern Blvd. I guarantee that you will not fi nd another play as unique as this one. MoMA PS1 presents a “dog play” from the mind of Hayley Aviva Silverman. This play encompasses a mix of the 1996 fi lm “Twister” and “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens. These vivacious canines carry speakers, out of which human monologues will be projected into the audience. 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for nonmembers and $13 for members. The MoMA PS1 is located on 22-25 Jackson Ave. at the intersection of 46th Avenue in Long Island City. Four members from the cast of the Broadway hit “Jersey Boys” have re-united as “The Midtown Men.” This performance is sure to dazzle audiences as they sing the hottest songs from the 60s, including music from the Beatles, Motown and the Rascals. The tickets range from $35 to $59 and the performance will be held at the Kupferburg Center for the Arts at 3 p.m. The center is located on 65-30 Kissena Blvd. in Flushing. MONDAY, FEB. 22 In the mood for a romantic comedy? “Man Up” (Rated R) tells the story of a recently divorced man prepared for a blind date. Ultimately, he mistakes a random woman for his date and she decides to play along. This fi lm shows how unexpected circumstances can sometimes be a blessing in disguise. The showing of “Man Up” will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Queens Library in Windsor Park. This park is located on 79-50 Bell Blvd. in Bayside. TUESDAY, FEB. 23 Learn vital knowledge of the different types of birth control as well as how they function. The Central Library of Jamaica is hosting an event made possible by the LIJ Medical Center in which any questions regarding the use or function of different birth controls will be answered. The event will take place at 89-11 Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica. The Queens Library of Jackson Heights is holding a session for Bengali speakers, looking for jobs in the United States. It will be held in Bengali and is geared toward helping people adjust to life in America as well as empower them to have the best possible chance of fi nding employment. This session will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at 35-51 81st St. in Jackson Heights. With the sponsorship of Councilman Eric Ulrich, the Queens Symphony Orchestra will be showing off their talent for a 2-hour show beginning at 7 p.m. This concert will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church and is free of charge as long as you RSVP. The Queens Library of Far Rockaway presents its evening Zumba class. This class led by instructor Maxine Davis includes exercises from squats to hip-hop and salsa dancing. Get your groove on and enjoy life! The class will be held outside of the library, located on 2601 Mott Avenue. Looking for a chilling yet joyful experience? Then you won’t want to miss the movie matinee of “Goosebumps” (rated PG) presented by the Queens Library of Maspeth. This movie, based on the best-selling books by R.L. Stine, is about a young boy who teams up with the daughter of the author himself R.L. Stine (played by Jack Black) in order to save the town from the wrath of his storybook monsters come to life. The movie EDITOR’S PICK If your little ones would enjoy making their very own stuffed animal, then the New York Hall of Science is the place for you. This event will teach your child to hand-sew stuffed animals to their very own liking and design. There are two sessions, one from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and the other from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20. This is the fi nal Saturday on which this event will be held, so be sure to attend! The New York Hall of Science is located on 47-01 111th St. in Corona. will be shown from 3 to 5 p.m. and is located on 69-70 Grand Ave. in Maspeth. The Voelker-Orth Museum proudly supports Queens’ native Carlos Esguerra. He is presenting his photo gallery called “Essence of Queens,” fi lled with photos exemplifying the beautiful diversity of his home borough. The award-winning photographer Esguerra is of Filipino heritage and his galleries have been on display in Canada, South America and Europe. This specifi c gallery will be on display until March 8.
