By Robert Pozarycki rpozarycki@qns.com/@robbpoz Just add cattle-rustling to the list of ways the 103rd Precinct serves the people of Jamaica. Officers from the precinct wrangled a cow on Jan. 21 that managed to make a break for it from a neighborhood slaughterhouse, authorities said. Police received a 911 call at 12:15 p.m. about the loose bovine in the vicinity of 164th Street and Jamaica Avenue. Officers arrived and spotted the cow, which wound its way through streets to a parking garage on Archer Avenue near the Jamaica Mall. Sources familiar with the incident said that the cow walked into the garage — no word on if it was charged a fee — where it was cornered and then taken into custody by police. The officers loaded the cow onto a special truck and returned it to slaughter, it was noted. However, the cow was spared the cleaver, as it was later released into the custody of an animal sanctuary in New Jersey, according to DNAInfo. “Yes, you heard right,” Deputy Inspector John G. Cappelmann, commanding officer of the 103rd Precinct, tweeted. “Cow on the loose-Jamaica Queens. All officers safe. No injuries. Thank you all for your patience.” It was the second time this week that 103rd Precinct officers played a role in stopping a farm animal on the loose in Jamaica. On Tuesday afternoon, members of the 103rd Precinct Anti-Crime Unit stopped a goat running around the neighborhood.
