8 Screening & Live Event:
“Putin’s Witnesses” — It is the
year 2000, and filmmaker Vitaly
Mansky is hired to make a movie
about Russian presidential candidate
Vladimir Putin. In the wake
of Boris Yeltsin’s surprise resignation,
in which he named the recently
appointed Prime Minister his successor,
a special election is scheduled to
happen. And it was Mansky’s job to
go behind the scenes and present the
real Putin to the world. Eighteen years
later, Mansky returns to the footage
he shot during this time, reconsidering
it, questioning his own participation
in it, and looking for clues
to explain what would happen in
the ensuing two decades of Putin’s
regime. Along the way, Mansky transforms
what had been functional,
vaguely propagandistic footage into a
font of constant revelation.
When: Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m.
Where: Museum of the Moving Image,
36-01 35 Ave., Astoria

a social life can be a chore, brunch
is A Whole Thing, and more often
than not, the only relationship worth
maintaining is the one that provides
unlimited access to Netflix. Simply
put, life as a millennial can be hard.

14 Tyrannosaurus: 10 Year
Anniversary Show —
What is Tyrannosaurus, you ask?
It is the oldest still running standup
comedy show in all of Astoria,
Queens. It was first started at RaR
Bar in 2008 and the responsibility
of hosting it has been passed
down from comedian since then. In
October of 2018 the current goofballs
that host this weekly show
took it over. Although Jamie Wolf,
Leland Long and Randall Otis have
only hosted the show for three
months, they wanted to pay homage
to the hosts of yesteryear! We hunted
down all the past hosts we could
find that haven’t quit comedy and
gone back to law school. With them
and a couple friends of the show
we plan to usher in the 10th year
of comedy at RaR Bar with a bang!
Will it be weird that these guys who
have only had the show for three
months are doing a 10-year anniversary
show? Who knows? Will it be
fun nonetheless? HECK YEAH!
When: Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 9 to
10:30 p.m.
Where: RaR Bar, 30-01 35th Ave.,
Long Island City
Cost: Free
