NYC Sheriff ’s offi ce busts Rosedale
clubfor hosting maskless romp
New York City Sheriff deputies busted a makeshift Rosedale club that was
hosting a party with more than 160 people in attendance, leading to the arrest
of four men on Sunday, Dec. 20.
The party, located at the Event Center 145-12 243rd St., met its demise when
deputies spotted multiple groups of people walking into the location through
a rear alley on Mayda Road, according to authorities.
Deputies attempted to enter the venue, which had its main entry blocked by
a metal roll down gate, around 2:30 a.m., only to fi nd two unlicensed security
guards blocking the door. Once inside, offi cers saw more than 160 maskless people
dancing, drinking alcohol and smoking hookah, according to authorities.
The two security guards — Sha-Mel Lamont Jones, 21, and Jason Hicks, 35
— were arrested and charged with violating Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19
executive order and for being unlicensed security guards.
The club’s DJ, Andres Cadavid, 28, was arrested and charged with violating
the executive order, violating emergency measures and for failing to protect
health and safety, the sheriff ’s offi ce said.
A fourth man, Carl Champagne, 38, was arrested and charged with criminal
possession of marijuana.
Additionally, the sheriff ’s offi ce charged the owners of the venue with multiple
violations, including serving alcohol without a license, not adhering to fi re code
and a $15,000 fi ne for failing to protect health and safety.
The Event Center did not immediately respond to QNS’ request for
comment.

Home invasion at South Jamaica
housing complex ends in
deadly shooting
Detectives are investigating an apparent home invasion at a South Jamaica
housing complex on Monday that left a 26-year-old man fatally shot and two
men with knife wounds.
The incident happened at about 12:44 p.m. on Dec. 21 inside a sixth-fl oor apartment
within the Baisley Houses complex at 116-80 Guy R. Brewer Blvd.
According to preliminary information, two individuals approached a 22-
year-old man from behind as he was about to head into the apartment. One
of the suspects put a gun to the man’s head and forced their way inside the
residence.
There, police said, the 22-year-old man called out for help, and a 27-year-old
man then confronted the two suspects, leading to a physical altercation.
The fi ght turned violent, cops reported, when someone pulled out a gun and
fi red a shot; it’s not clear who pulled the trigger. The 22- and 27-year-old victims
were also stabbed in the hands with a knife.
Moments later, offi cers from the 113th Precinct and NYPD PSA 9 arrived on
the scene aft er getting a 911 call about the assault. They were met by the 22- and
27-year-old victims, who had exited the apartment along with a 25-year-old man
whom the pair identifi ed as a suspect.
Police were then informed of another individual inside the apartment. The
offi cers walked in and found Hakim Blankumsee, 26, of East 128th Street in
Harlem, with a gunshot wound to his torso.
Paramedics rushed both men to Jamaica Hospital, where Blankumsee died
of his injuries. The stabbed men were treated for their injuries.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.
