It was a banner day for the Blau
Weiss Gottschee (BWG) Under 17
Academy team as they managed to
fi nish in fi rst place in their division,
beating out a pair of Major League
Soccer (MLS) Academy teams in the
New York City Football Club (NYCFC)
and the Montreal Impact.
Over the weekend, the boys won the
last game of the fall season by blanking
Beachside 2-0 on goals by Jonathan
Ford and Sean Molloy.
The U19 team also defeated
Beachside by a score of 2-1, while the
U15 Academy team played Beachside
to a 2-2 draw.
In the men’s ranks, the BWG men’s
team took on the Cosmopolitan Soccer
League (CSL) Metro 1 Division rivals
the Ridgewood Romac in a frantic
match.
BWG dug themselves into a hole, despite
taking an early 1-0 lead on a Greg
Davis goal assisted by Christian Paredes.
Aft er two red cards, the BWG squad was
down to only nine players, and found
themselves trailing 4-1 with 30 minutes
to play. Quick goals by Joel Morales and
Davis (his second of the match) put BWG
within one goal of tying the game.
Captain Dion Amvrosiatos
leveled the game at four goals
apiece, and Davis completed his
hat trick to put BWG up 5-4 with
9 minutes to go. They held on for
the win.
