34 NOVEMBER 17, 2016 RIDGEWOOD TIMES WWW.QNS.COM REAL ESTATE A huge apartment complex on Ridgewood/Bushwick border is nearing completion BY ANTHONY GIUDICE [email protected] @A_GIUDICEREPORT A massive fi ve-story apartment building on the Ridgewood/ Bushwick border in Queens is almost fi nished. According to a published report in New York YIMBY, the new 21,500-square-foot building located at 803 Wyckoff Ave. will hold 54 rental units and a total of 43,004 square feet of residential space. The real estate website says that the average size of each unit will be approximately 800 square feet, and they will most likely be a mix of one- and two-bedroom units with 29 duplexes, 26 regular apartments, as well as a 1,000-squarefoot indoor recreation space on the fi ft h fl oor and another 480-square-foot recreational room in the basement. Although the site is located just a few short blocks from the L and M trains at the Myrtle/Wyckoff station, it will feature a 27-car parking lot — which is the minimum number of parking spaces required to meet the area’s zoning regulations. Large developments like this — whether they are slated to be used for housing or retail — are frowned upon, especially in Ridgewood, where overdevelopment and gentrifi cation are running rampant. Organizations like the Ridgewood Tenants Union fi ght against large developments coming into the neighborhood as well as gentrifi cation. Later this month, Ridgewood Tenants Union is holding a march through Ridgewood to “Keep Ridgewood Livable for All” as they walk from 1819 Cornelia St. — where a group of tenants are hoping to stay in their homes aft er the building was sold on public auction — to the AB Capstone development at the intersection of Palmetto and St. Nicholas streets. The Ridgewood Times has reached out to the Loketch Group, which is developing the property, and the Ridgewood Tenants Union, and is awaiting a response.
